Adjust maximum speed

1. On the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2. Double-click the Modems icon.

3. On the General tab, select the modem you are trying to use, and then click Properties.
4. In the Maximum speed box, make sure the selected speed is equal to or a little lower than your modem's maximum speed.
5. Click OK, and then click Close.
