Still Alive!
(review of the latest issue of Alive! mag)

What is this? 642 kilobytes of text plus 736 kB of pictures and 260 kB of
music? It's a computer program and it's alive! We were waiting for a while for
the third issue of Alive! magazine but it was worth it. Since there is not too
many :) zines for the good, old ST, every new issue is a blessing. Atari
sceners around the world wait impatiently for hot news from their scene. One
could say: "Hey, we have the Internet, net of the nets, so we have access to
billions of articles!". Yes, we have the Internet, but we still need someone to
"sift" this unimaginable amount of information. Take the "Inside the Scene" for
example, where you can read that Escape are going to release a new demo next
year. You won't find this news on the Net, I promise. It's just the matter of
these... you know... connections ;)
Shell coded mainly by earx/fun works smoothly and runs even under STeem (try to
rename "shell.bin" to "shell.prg", doublelick on it, done!). Music by Tao and
DmaSc won't hurt your ears, in fact they are pretty cool and Tao's piece is my
favourite :) I have seen some PC mags and - believe me - engine that drives
Alive! may be easily compared with them. Good work guys, it's hard to believe
that this code derives from the antique DBA Magazine...
The essence of every diskmag are of course the articles. Text that may be found
in Alive! 3 are - as usual - high quality products. I believe that so called
"atypical platforms" have much more highly devoted users and they're..... older
than pc-sceners :) Just kidding. I was trying to say that Atarists are more
experienced users, so they have much more interesting and inspiring things to
say. Or something like that :)
Anyway, I really enjoyed reading the third issue, enjoyed feeling that the
Atari scene is still alive. And kicking.
