Installation Notes ------------------ (1) 3Dfx Accelerator Cards -------------------------- This game supports two different versions of Pandemonium: a non-3Dfx version and a 3Dfx version. If you have a 3Dfx card, you should ensure that the SETUP program has a check in the box marked "Use my 3Dfx accelerator card". If you first install the non-3Dfx version of Pandemonium, and subsequently install a 3Dfx card, you must re-install Pandemonium in order to run the 3Dfx version of the game. (2) Full Install versus Compact Install --------------------------------------- The SETUP program allows you to choose between 'Full' and 'Compact' installation. The full install takes up more disk space but loads game levels much more quickly when you're playing Pandemonium. Playing Pandemonium ------------------- (1) Game Options ---------------- Once you start the game, you can alter certain parameters by pressing the ESCAPE key, which activates the game menu. You can: - adjust sound and music volumes, - change keyboard controls, - change joystick button controls, or - alter performance parameters (non-3Dfx only). (2) Performance: Speed versus Graphic Quality --------------------------------------------- Pandemonium performs best on a 3Dfx accelerated machine. On non-3Dfx or slower speed machines, Pandemonium does not run as quickly. In order to alter the speed of the game, you can: - choose between full texturing (looks better) and low texturing (runs faster), or - enable Gouraud shading (looks better) or disable it (runs faster). Also, the game normally runs slightly faster in 640x400 mode. To do this, specify 'Hide Desktop' when the game starts, and select 640x400 from the list of possible resolutions. Note: The 3Dfx version of Pandemonium always runs in 640x480 mode, with Gouraud shading enabled and full texturing turned on. The Charles Utility ------------------- This utility allows you to alter some of the graphics used in Pandemonium. For example, if you have a BMP file of the right size, you can replace Nikki's face with one of your own! Future, improved versions of 'Charles' will be available on the Crystal Dynamics web page at: http://www.crystald.com Full instructions on how to use 'Charles', are included in the CHARLES directory on the installation CD-ROM in README.TXT. The Charles utility is named after its first victim. Sorry Charles!
