› o=o=o=o=o=›› Editor's Message›› This year marks twenty years for› Atari computers. Yet, our community› still develops hardware and software› -- even commercial game software, we› still have news to report, and we› still have a loyal following of 8-bit› Atarians, in addition to a proud› history. Remarkable, yes? I've› tried to reflect all of what I've› just said in various parts of this› issue, and I hope you enjoy it.›› On Side 1, please note the new› meeting dates for September 1999 to› June 2000. Also note that the› meetings will start at 1PM, and thus› the potential for their lasting until› the published 5PM has increased.› Please also note that there are› changes in the email list. Please› pay particular attention to the long,› annotated list of URLs. If you have› Internet access and are an 8-bit› Atarian, these URLs are a must! The› program that runs from the spacebar› is a demo, CCDEMO.BAS, from Atreju's› website. "A demo in BASIC," I hear› you ask with some incredulity? Yes,› and not compiled BASIC, either. This› one is written in listable Atari› BASIC (well, there are some machine-› language routines in it.) Try it› out. For those of you who are› frustrated by the ATOMIT game that› was on the last newsletter, I've› included a "cheat" by JOSEPH E.› HICSWA (Article is choice B from› menu, pertinent files are› ATOMGRID.ASC and ATOMGRID.XLT.) Also› on Side 1, there are two machine-› language games produced by GREG YOUNG› and released into the public domain› by him some years ago. The game› files are SPACEACE.EXE and› HOTLIPS.EXE. I found them posted in›› alt.binaries.comp.atari8bit›› in response to a request for them by› the author in›› comp.sys.atari.8bit›› Greg had apparently misplaced his› originals. (Note: the first newsgoup› is infrequently active, and isn't› carried by all ISPs. I know that› NassauNet will not carry it, and› unless something has changed recently› neither will AOL.) Hot Lips is a› Pacman clone, in which you try to get› the ghost monsters to be crunched by› the Hot Lips without suffering the› same fate AND without a pass-through› on the sides of the screen. Space› Ace is a space shoot-'em-up with (oh,› no, Joe Hicswa!) a time limit!› MUSICTD2.BAS is a part of a Music› Theory Drill series that comes from› our copy of Pool Disk Too. (Although› there is also a MUSICTD1 and a› MUSICTD3, I believe they are› corrupted.) FORMSGEN.BAS is, as the› filename indicates, a forms generator› from JEFF BRENNER, also found on Pool› Disk Too.›› Side 2 features the return of the› Humor Corner. I hope you get a› couple of chuckles from that. The› program that runs from the spacebar› is BUSNES.BAS. Also, please find› AURABL.COM (pinball), BOX2.COM› (Polish Music Demo), and ADA.BAS,› PAUL ALHART's default adjuster for› AtariWriter. All are from the› "treasure" section of Pool Disk Too.›› o=o=o=o=o=››››
