› THE QUICK CATALOGER› by Ron Fetzer of OHAUG›› Have you a box of disk that you have› not the slightest idea whats on it?› Does it take you forever to find a› program. You need help! The QUICK› CATALOGER will put a disk number on› your disk and also catalog it. The› program is fast and easy to use. You› will now be able to sort your disks› by FILE NAME or by DISK NUMBER. It› will now be easy to find any file or› disk. I did 17,000 files of our OHAUG› P.D. library with this program. That› is over 650 double sided disks. The› program is very heavly error› protected. I think you will like it.›› MASTER DISK. To make a master disk do› the following:› › 1. Format a disk in single› density.› 2. Put DOS 2.5 on it› 3. Put RAMDISK.COM on it.› 4. Copy the file AUTORUN.SYS› (TURBO BASIC) to the disk.› 5. From the Newsletter copy the› file CATMENU.ARB to your disk. › 6. From the Newsletter copy the› file QUICKCAT.TUR to your disk. ›› If you have the old TURBO BASIC that› has the prompt 'READY' then change› the name of the file CATMENU.ARB to› AUTORUN.BAS. If your prompt says› 'TURBO' then you have the new TURBO› BASIC and you do not have to change› any file names›› You can also order a ready to run› disk from OHAUG. Please make a check› payable for $4.00 to RON FETZER. Mail› it to:›› OHAUG› c/o Ron Fetzer› 22 Monaco Ave.› Elmont, NY 11003, U.S.A›› Your order will be filled promptly.›› FEATURES: The QUICK CATALOGER is for› the 130XE or a modified 800XL with a› RAMDISK D8. It needs TURBO BASIC. It› can sort up to 810 files. It reads› the disk directories automatically› and stores them in the RAM DISK› "D8:DISKFILE". You need only one disk› drive. It writes the disk name or› number to the disk under the file› name of "DISK.CAT". It is fast and› easy to use. It has been tested on› over 17,000 files in the OHAUG P.D.› LIBRARY. It requires a minimun of› typing.›› IMPORTANT: Everything is done in the› RAMDISK D8. Therefore you MUST copy› the contents of D8 to a floppy disk› BEFORE you turn off the computer› otherwise your work will be lost.› ALWAYS go to "8: END" on the menu. It› will give you a reminder of how to do› it.›› OPERATIONS: You feed one disk after› the other into the disk drive. The› program reads the directory and› stores it in D8:DISKFILE. You must› give a name or number of 5 characters› for each disk. It will be put on your› disk under the file name DISK.CAT. It› will not let you catalog more than› 810 files (memory is used up). It› will not catalog the folowing files› because they are not significant:› DOS.SYS; DUP.SYS; RAMDISK.COM;› DISK.CAT; MEM.SAV. It will show you› the disk directory on the screen and› also a running file count. If a disk› has already a name under the file› DISK.CAT then it will use that name.› You can sort by file name or disk› number. The printout will be in 5› columns on 3 pages.›› LOAD: If this is your first time you› use the program it will create a data› file of D8:DISKFILE. If you have used› the program before then you must› first COPY "D1:DISKFILE,D8:DISKFILE"› to the RAMDISK D8. The program will› be looking for this file.› After you have copied the file to D8› go to DOS OPTION L and for the file› name type AUTORUN.SYS(TURBO BASIC).› It will load the menu and then you› type QUICK to get the program. The› cataloger will do a file count and› then you can proceed. In order to› sort in the right squence please› number your disks as: 0001A, 0001B,› 0002A, 0002B ...9999A, 9999B. A is› the front. B is the back. You cannot› go 1AAAA or 1BBBB because the sort› will be incorrect.›› If a disk is FULL or has the WRITE› PROTECT TAB on it you will get a› promt. When you are to exceed the 810› file count the program will send you› to the menu with a prompt. You cannot› catalog more than 810 files. If you› have more then 810 files you save the› present D8:DISKFILE sort and print› it. Start over again with a new batch› of disks.›› ADD INDIVIDUAL FILES: You can add › individual files to the catalog› without having a disk in the disk› drive. This is useful when you want› to add commercial disk that cannot be› loaded.›› ERASE INDIVIDUAL FILES: You can erase› files from D8:DISKFILE the data file.› You must know the file name and the› disk name or number. The program will› tell you by a promt if it found the› file and erased it. You must re-sort› to eliminate a file or files.›› SORT FILES: The sort I used is the› SHELL SORT. It is one of the fastest› BASIC sorts. It will take about 5› minutes to sort 810 files. You will› hear a bell when the sort is› finished.›› You can sort by FILE NAME or by DISK› NAME OR NUMBER. When the SORT option› is chosen you are asked what disk› directory you want. I suggest you› always select 8. The sort files will› also be saved on D8.›› DISPLAY SORT: You can only display› SORT FILES from D8. If you want to› show a DISK NUMBER SORT on the screen› you must have first done that sort.›› PRINT THE SORT: The hard copy is in 5› columns on 3 pages. The sort runs› vertically through the 3 pages (like› chinese writing). This was done in› order to conserve memory for the› cataloger. You must give the printout› a title. There are automatic page› breaks in the printout.›› END: Always go to "8: END" This will› give you a prompt to save the› contents of the RAMDISK D8 to a› FLOPPY DISK.›› PROBLEMS: Some disks have non› standard ATARI DISK NAMES such as› PRINT SHOP ICONS. They cannot be› cataloged. Some disks have inverse› file names or other irregular names› and they get automatically loaded› into the data file. You must remove› then before you sort.›› Removing problem files from› D8:DISKFILE. Copy the file(DOS)› D8:DISKFILE,D1:DISKFILE to a floppy› disk. Load the file into a› wordprocessor. CORRECT any non› standard file in the word processor.› Save the file to a floppy disk with› the file name "D1:DISKFILE". Go to› DOS and copy this file to the RAMDISK› D8. Start the program again with DOS› OPTION L - File name AUTORUN SYS.› Select QUICK and now you can sort and› print the data file without any› problems. It is strongly suggested› you do a file cleanup before you do a› sort.›› PRINTER CONTROL CODES. There is only› one control code for CONDENSED› printing. It is CHR$(15) in line› 2650. It is for an EPSON PRINTER. If› your printer uses a different code› please change it and resave the› program with the file name› QUICKCAT.TUR.›› MEMORY. The program uses all but 318› bytes of your volatile RAM therefore› not many changes are possible. You› MUST use TURBO BASIC with this› program.›› If you have any comments they are› welcome. Please write to RON FETZER,› 22 MONACO AVE., ELMONT, NY 11003,› U.S.A. This program is in the PUBLIC› DOMAIN. February 1997.›› >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>END<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<›››
