Thats 5 NEW›members added to th rooster!››PICNIC DINNER:›› JACK GEDALIUS brought in,and›showed us a video tape of our 1st›INDOOR ANNUAL PICNIC. We all looked›great on it! Thank you JACK.››CORRESPONDENCE:›› We received a letter from our›member BEN POEHLAND of Pennsylvania.›He is a prime mover for the CREATION›of the new ATARI CLASSIC COMPUTER›MAGAZINE. The publisher is UNICORN›PUBLICATIONS. ALEX talked on the phone›for 1 12 to 2 hours with BEN about the›magazine. BEN asked us to package the›CLASSIC COMPUTER DISK. This would›involve packing about 600 disks in›mailing envelopes and gluing on the›labels. This would be a 3 times a year›obligation on our part. BEN hopes to›put out the AC at $25.00 a year›including the AC disks. ALEX said if›OL HACKERS make the commitment to do›this, it has to have 100% approval by›the membership. The membership agreed›100% by vote to take on the task for›AC.› BEN said next year he might come›to one of our meetings on his›vacation. He as very pleased that we›are using his article on upgrading the›800XL. He said he wrote the manifest›for ATARI CLASSIC,and will turn it›into the publisher. It was read to us.›It is the foundation of the magazine.›It took him a long time to do it. JEFF›MC WILLIAMS is working on an advanced›8-Bit program which will allow camera›ready schematic diagrams to accompany›articles in the magazine.› A letter from our member TOM›ANDREWS of Syracuse to RON. He sends›us a disk with a whole bunch of great›programs on it. This newsletter will›have a further improvement. You will›be able to print on the front and the›back of the paper. We have an ODD,›EVEN, ALL page option on printing. You›first print the ODD PAGES then you›turn the paper around in the printer›and print all the EVEN PAGES, thus you›have front and back pages printed on›the paper. Or you can select ALL and›print as usual. TOM is the author of›this modification. An ACE of SYRACUSE›member demoed the DISK MANAGEMENT›SYSTEM and it went very well.› JIM CUTLER our member from›England wrote to us. He just got a new›modem and he is going to use Bob Term.›RON said he will mail him some›articles on BOB TERM. ALEX instructed›the librarian to issue 5 disks of›JIM'S choice and send it to him. This›is in return for all the great›programs we have received from JIM.›› A letter to DAVID EWENS our›member from England. ALEX thanked him›and the other members from England for›the disks that they sent us. He›informed them to drop a note to our›librarian and inform him of the 5›disks that they would like to have›from us. This is just a small token of›our appreciation for their kindness.›ALEX encouraged them to write an›article for the newsletter from the›English perspective.›› ROWLAND GRANT of the GARDEN CITY›ACE in B.C. in Canada sent us a disk›with the MANDELBROT SET on it. On the›back he sent us 2 great games - THINK›and SUPERHOP, both made by one of the›clubs members.››ITEMS:›› On the bottom of page 44 of the›JUL/AUG 92 issue of CURRENT NOTES›MAGAZINE is a note that TEXTPRO 5.0›will be mailed to all who ordered from›R. RICHE, the author of the program.›› CHUCK McBRIDE a veteran TURBO›BASIC programmer will review the 3›disk PROGRAMMING KIT released by us›and written by RON FETZER for a future›issue of CURRENT NOTES MAGAZINE.›› RON showed a HANDY DANDY GADGET›for all ATARI users. It is a disk›notcher mounted on the bottom of a›coffee can that has a 1/2 hole in it.›This way your notcher does not get›clogged and all the little black disk›pieces get collected in the can. The›wife will appreciate this also!›› LIGHTNING PROTECTION !!!! In a›severe thunderstorm there is ONLY ONE›WAY to protect your equipment. You›must unplug it from the electric›socket. Don't forget to unplug the›phone line of your modem. Surge›protectors CANNOT stop a lightning›strike near your house or traveling on›your electric or phone lines. ALEX›lost some equipment. I have lost an›interface - all because I did not›unplug my equipment. This reminder tip›comes from SAM CORY, member of OHAUG›and J.A.C.G..›› By the way, J.A.C.G. offers every›issue of our newsletter as their DISK-›OF-THE-MONTH. They said we have the›most comprehensive and well written 8-›Bit newsletter anywhere. Thanks for›the compliment, its nice to be›appreciated.››TREASURERS REPORT:› We are OK and doing very nicely,›THANK you!››DEMOES:›› An Australian disk. We saw some›great graphics on the disk. Their disk›is like a slide show. It is a›newsletter disk. One side is text and›the other side is graphics. They use›SMART RAM a great DOS program.› HAROLD PEGLER demonstrated a›printing program similar to BILLBOARD›but with easier instructions that will›print graphics pictures from any›format. It is called SUPERB SCREEN›DUMP Ver. 2.0. It will print pictures›in various sizes up to 8 x 10 inches.›You also have shading options to›change the type of printout that you›want.› ALEX demonstrated how to use the›1st XLEnt Word Processor. This›demonstration was aimed at the new›users of the word processor. ALEX›demonstrated the use of the RAM DISK›and the two windows that can hold›separate programs in the word›processor. You can have one version of›a file in one window and another›version of the same file in the second›window. You can cut and paste between›the 2 windows. It is a great word›processor. RON then demonstrated the›great picture formatter that comes›with this word processor. It lets you›print pictures with your text›files.(See JUL/AUG 92 Newsletter.)› ALEX demoed BOOT DIRECTORY a›great program that shows you the›directory of your disk upon boot up›time. ALEX showed us a disk of BASIC›LESSONS. It starts you off from›scratch and takes you through all of›ATARI BASIC. It is disk #194 in our›library.› ALEX demoed mandelbrot pictures›made from SUPERHOP.OBJ and printed›with BILLBOARD. SUPERHOP.OBJ loads a›fractal picture.› ALEX also demoed LAS VEGAS SLOT›MACHINE GAME and a POKER GAME. These›are two great games. ALEX lost to the›computer in both games. Both games are›in machine language.› ALEX then showed BILLBOARD›modified for the GEMENI printer and›the ATARI XMM801 printer and of course›the EPSON printers. The modification›was done by our member from upstate›New York TOM ANDREWS. ALEX›demonstrated the gray scale function›and the various printer options of the›program. If you do not have BILLBOARD›you are urged to get it. It is a›classic and the best printing program›for the 8-Bit. On the back side of›this disk is a GREAT MENU program›called MENUEXC.BAS. In addition there›are a ton of great utilities on the›back of this disk. This disk is #196›in our library. ALEX also showed›DISKDIR.TXT a program that reads the›disk directory and stores it as a text›file. You can then use it in your word›processor and catalog your disks. Then›came PSLABEL7 Ver 3. This is the›newest upgrade. It is also on this›disk. A dynamite disk to get from our›library. It also has VTEXT.COM a›terrific text reader program.››DOOR PRIZES:››MURRY BERKOWITZ›FRANK CASTALDO›HAROLD PEGLER›JACK GEDALIUS›RON FETZER››Submitted by›› RON FETZER›› >>>>>>>>>>>>>END<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<›
