› o=o=o=o=o=›› OL' HACKERS ATARI USER GROUP MEETING› October 19, 1996›› JACK GEDALIUS introduced the new› Recording Secretary, Barbara J.› Keller, to the attending members.›› CORRESPONDENCE:›› RON FETZER read a fax from Robert De› Letter of Belgium, who was surprised› when he heard about Alex's death. We› also got a note from Gail, Alex's› daughter and his wife Marie, who› thanked us for the plaque and tape,› and they wish us well.›› Our ex-member, Norman Williamson from› England, wrote to let us know his› wife died of cancer. Needless to› say, he had a difficult year, and› that's why he didn't renew his› membership last year. We sent a note› of condolence.›› ALN SHARKIS showed us a letter he› sent to Mr.Stuart Murray of NOSAUG in› response to his letter about Alex. › Alan also received a Newsletter from› a user group in the Chicago area› which does have some 8-bit members in› their group although there is nothing› 8-bit-specific in this newsletter. › He also received a very long message,› really an article from Donald A.› Thomas, Jr. It was a very long and› involved history of Atari, Corp. › Then Alan showed a very nice letter› from JIM CUTLER saying he would send› us some surplus programs which Alan› has. Alan read the letter to the› club members. Jim suggests we might› use these as door prizes. RON FETZER› will send our thanks to Jim.›› Alan announced that the Toad October› Atarifest will be held on October 26,› Saturday in their Severna Park, MD› store.›› Alan then showed a beautiful picture› post card from JOE HICSWA who said› that it was difficult to remove the› Scotch Tape from the newsletter disks› when they are received. Alan› suggested we use a nonstickey› reusable tape for our disk mailings. › Also a letter from JOE HICSWA stating› that he was interviewed by a local› newspaper regarding his Atari hobby› was read.›› Alan passed around a clipping from› BOB ULSCHMID's wife. When she was in› Florida, she noticed that a local› paper in Largo ran an article about› Alan Frazer and his Atari 8-bit› computers. The article went on to› interview two other members of PACE› and to put Atari computers in a very› positive light.›› HAROLD PEGLER is still working on› Library Index disk #4; the library is› getting very large.›› HARRY TUTHILL has door prizes for us› this month, but they will be› supplanted by the programs that JIM› CUTLER sent. Harry's prizes will be› awarded next month.›› JACK GEDALIUS mentioned the computer› show at Nassau Coliseum but it will› most probably have a only IBM› products.›› JACK asked for a vote for an› Equipment Manager and RON FETZER was› voted in.› › AL SHARKIS spoke about emulators and› how various people are improving them› and how many people who no longer› have Ataris, and wish they did, can› have emulation as a not-too-close› second. JIM HARRIS is moving to› Massachusetts next month. He will be› promoted to a software engineering› position and he is going to miss us a› lot. We'll miss Jim, too. As a› result, the New Nest BBS is going› back to PAT MULVEY in a couple of› weeks, and it will revert to its old› name -- The Nest.›› DEMONSTRATIONS:›› AL SHARKIS demonstrated a program› that displays Atascii cartoons. One› such cartoon, named Hackula, is about› a bat who changes into a Dracula at› will, goes in and out windows to› access anything he wants, gives› himself unlimited access on his› machine, and downloads enough to› destroy his own system. The moral› is, "Don't check your counts before› they're hacked." Side 2 works also,› Animate is the name of the program› (Library #659).›› JACK GEDALIUS demonstrated a program› called Towers of Hanoi, a game where› you must end up with all the pieces› on one pole with the smallest on top.› You can use a few pieces for an easy› game, or many to make it more› difficult. There are several copies› like this in the library already.›› Then the door prizes were drawn, and› everyone present received one.› › A guest, George Gable, attended this› meeting. He would like to join the› club next month.›› The next meeting will be on November› 9, 1996 at 11:30 in the library› meeting room.›› o=o=o=o=o=›››
