\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\›› OCTOBER 7th NEAR*US MEETING› by Alan Sharkis› OHAUG Newsletter Librarian›› NEAR*US was founded several years› back as an umbrella service› organization for ATARI user groups in› the Northeastern United States.› Although it was an active group› during the term of its first› chairman, it fell into inactivity› when he could no longer chair the› organization. NEAR*US was› revitalized over a year ago, largely› through the efforts of LVAUG's JON› MORDOSKY.›› NEAR*US had a very successful swap› meet this past summer, which was› attended by ATARIANS from New York,› Connecticut, New Jersey,› Pennsylvania, and Delaware. However,› at that meeting, Jon announced that› personal concerns were overloading› him to the point that he could no› longer be an effective chairman.› While he will remain with the› organization by managing its data› base and representing LVAUG at› meetings, it was decided to select a› new chairman at the October meeting.› It was also decided to change the› nature of the steering committee.›› Since only four user groups (LVAUG,› LIAUG, OL' HACKERS and JACG) are› currently active, a representative› from the leadership of each club was› chosen as a permanent member of the› steering committee. Pat Mulvey will› represent LIAUG, Jon will represent› LVAUG as mentioned above, JOE HICSWA› and/or SAM COREY will represent JACG,› and JOHN HARDIE will represent OL'› HACKERS.›› Chosen as the new chairman was MARK› GLICKSMAN, a long-time member of› LIAUG, an 8-bitter, and an expert on› ATARI game systems. MARK will bring› a healthy dose of enthusiasm to the› organization.›› (Ed-MARK was a member of OHAUG in the› past and has said he might join us› again! Any time you are ready MARK,› you are welcome. A.P.)›› NEAR*US maintains a data base of user› groups, BBSs, vendors and developers› of all ATARI products. It's next› several projects include a repeat of› July's "ATARIMEET," continued› support for the ATARI community, and› a possible page on the World Wide› Web.›› Stay tuned!›› \/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\›
