o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o››This is an article about a 3 1/2" disk›upgrade for the XF551 drive. Taken›from the Unix newsnet system.›Transferred by Mike Blenkiron. Tidied›and reprinted from ENGLAND's (??) Dean›Garraghty's newsletter #2, with›thanks!›-----------------------------------››I just thought I'd tell everybody›about an interesting upgrade for the›XF 551 disk drive, from CSS (Computer›Software Services). The XF 551›Conversion allows use of either a›5.25" or 3.5" mechanism. The dual›drive upgrade allows use of both 5.25"›and 3.5" drives. The DIP switches in›the rear control the drive number of›the first 5.25"; the 3.5" drive will›assume the next higher drive number.››The other feature of this upgrade is›the ability to read IBM and ST 360K›and 720K disks, with the separate disk›reader program. It cannot read IBM›high density disks (1.2 or 1.44 meg).››It works great! Transferring files›with it is a breeze -- you can get a›directory of an ST or PC disk, and›even convert EOL's automatically with›the supplied program. It's nice to see›somebody out there still cares about›the 8-bit -- thanks Bob Puff! It even›accesses files within subdirectories›on IBM/ST disks.››I recently purchased a Blackbox from›CSS, which allows you to easily›interface SCSI/SASI hard drives to›your 8-bit -- another great job by Bob›Puff. It's nice to see somebody out›there still doing something on our›computers.››You can get more information from CSS,›their BBS number is (716) 247-7157;›the voice number is (716) 586-5545.›› *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*›
