*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*› (Editor-This is the second NEWSLETTER› REVIEW article on this months OHAUG› newsletter, in an effort to keep you› well informed as to other ATARI club› newsletters, and doings. A.P.)›› NEWSLETTER REVIEWS› by Alan Sharkis› OHAUG Newsletter Librarian›› KEEPING IN TOUCH!›› This group of reviews is short, but› contains some very important› information. It should be viewed as› a guide to some very vital› information for all Classic Atari› users. If you are a corresponding› member and don't have access to one› or several of the summarized› articles, write to us here. Mention› the article and the newsletter from› which it came, and I'll try to get a› copy of that article to you. I› won't, unfortunately, be able to send› out entire newsletters.›› From (FR)ANTIC for January 1995 --› RUSSELL STOWE's Presidents Corner› column describes a game demo by AAAUA› member RICK DETLEFSEN in which› several computers can be linked› together to allow for multiple› players. The game is Maze of› Agdagon, and it is not the first time› I've heard of it. I hope we can get› a copy of it here at OHAUG and try it› out! RUSSELL GIBSON's column, The› Last Part, explores several nuances› of programming the numeric keypad in› BASIC. I can't seem to recall the› previous two columns, so I can't› really follow the logic of what he's› doing. BOB HUDDLESTON reviews› U.S.A.A.F., a simulation of daytime› strategic bombing of Nazi Europe by› the US in World War II. It's a good› review of an equally good game. › There is also a list if 8-bit dealers› of hardware and software, but a much› more comprehensive list is to be› found in the review of Nybbles and› Bytes, below.›› From Nybbles and Bytes for› January/February 1995 -- Apparently,› RICK DETELFSEN has made contact, if› not friendship with N.W.P.A.C.› President DALE WOOSTER. Dale writes› about Rick providing programs and› hardware for N.W.P.A.C., and Rick has› also contributed a review of that› hardware/software package to Nybbles› and Bytes. Read his review of The› Super Sketch Graphics Tablet. You› can also chuckle at an amusing story› by, and picture of, JOHN POWELL› entitled, "Who Is This Man & Where› Are His Pants???" There is also a› reprint of an article I posted on› FidoNet, and apparently intercepted› by Dale on the Iron Horse BBS,› describing the return of NEAR*US. I› like the sentiments expressed in› Dale's introduction. Most of the› issue, however, is devoted to a list› of 8-bit vendors and developers, both› domestic and foreign. Phone numbers› and other means of contact are listed› where possible, along with› descriptions of each› vendor/developer's services. The› heading states that most of the› entries in the list have been› verified as of December of 1994. › This list is a _MUST HAVE_! ROWLAND› GRANT's Atari 8-bit Affairs column is› reprinted from XIO3, as usual, and is› full of information. Finally, on the› next-to-last page, is a series of› one-line 8-bit programs that should› please everyone. Before typing in› the programs, however, please heed› the advice to widen the columns to 40› (necessary pokes are provided) and a› warning that editing may not be› possible after typing a line.›› From (FR)ANTIC for February 1995 --› RUSSELL STOWE's Presidents Corner› column mentions that the A.A.A.U.A.› has just received several programs› for the 1020 plotter. Indeed, some› of those programs are printed on the› back page of this issue. I don't› have a 1020, so I couldn't check out› the programs. I hope JACK GEDALIUS› sees this review, requests the issue,› and checks them for us! RUSSELL also› writes a column on disk drive› maintenance and another on support. I› mentioned that there is a solid› connection between A.A.A.U.A. and› N.W.P.A.C., and this has been› strengthened by JOHN POWELL of› N.W.P.A.C. becoming a member of› A.A.A.U.A. BOB HUDDLESTON reviews› another wargame; this time it's,› "Tigers In The Snow." MANUEL GARCIA› describes how (FR)ANTIC is created.›› From MVACE News for February 1995 --› The Atari 8-bit Affairs column by› ROWLAND GRANT is reprinted from XIO3› for January/February 1995.›› From the LIAUG LightHouse for March› 1995 -- THOMAS J. ANDREWS' review of› Billboard is reprinted from the OHAUG› newsletter.›› From The PACESetter for March 1995 --› Pinellas County A.C.E. has produced› another good issue. JOHN POWELL's› picture and part of his article› mentioned above in the review of› Nybbles and Bytes is reprinted. John› is also a member of Pinellas County› A.C.E. Come to think of it, he's› also a member of OHAUG, and a guy I› see on FidoNet from time to time. › Well, John, now that everyone's seen› you in your shorts -- please promise› us that you won't pose that way› unless the weather gets a little› warmer than the 38 degrees you› report. We need you in good health! › ALAN FRAZER's review of Trail Blazer› from a previous issue of The› PACESetter is reprinted. JOHN› SLEZAK's list of TextPro commands is› handy to have. JIM PARRISH writes a› good article on printing labels. The› Getting To Know You column features› JOSEPH HICSWA, of JACG, OHAUG, and› P.A.C.E. I was surprised to find, in› a tiny column on page 7, an› announcement of an operating system› that will allow the Atari 800 to› handle XL and XE software. Read› about it! The P.A.C.E. Mail Box› column features a question about› XLENT Word Processor from JOE HICSWA.› It is answered in detail by VITO› RAIA. The usual assortment of› puzzles, riddles and jokes, this time› centering around a St. Patrick's Day› theme, rounds out the issue.› From the S.L.C.C. Journal for March› 1995 -- CLAY HALLIWELL describes his› program, Colorview Squash.›› A FINAL THOUGHT!›› Stay informed! Read the articles› mentioned in this column. Get hold› of that vendor/developer list in the› February Nybbles and Bytes and copy› it. Go over your three OHAUG Library› Disks, Buy a few, and take advantage› of the wealth of programs that are› still available to you, at what you› must admit is truly a most reasonable› cost! It can lend a great measure of› support to your 8 BIT micro, making› it more valuable than ever.›› *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*›
