TWO VIEWS ON THE 4TH ANNUAL DINNER›*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*›› Ol' Hackers Pick A Winner!›› Fourth Annual Dinner Deemed› Great Success›› by Alan Sharkis››The annual dinner of the Ol' Hackers›Atari User Group was held at Cafe 20›South on Wednesday, January 19, 1992›at 7 PM. "So what", you say? Are›you as jaded by successful dinners as›I am lead to believe? Well, here's›one member who never attended one of›these before, and I was very›favorably impressed. We had an›outstanding turnout of active,›inactive and former members along›with their spouses and dates, as well›as a guest who was no stranger to›many of us. PAT MULVEY, former sysop›of The Nest and 8-bit program›chairman at LIAUG was a most welcome›visitor. My wife and I are still›talking about the pleasant company,›the relative lack of computer talk›(which she would rather not hear most›of the time), and the restaurant›itself.››The restaurant was a major›contributor to the success of the›evening. Food was good and›plentiful, and the price was more›than right. Considering the fact›that the dinner was planned late and›that the restaurant was chosen before›anyone had a chance to try it, we did›very well, indeed. Of course, it was›ALEX who took the big chance and›suggested the place to us sight›unseen. His presentation was›accepted, more I think because of the›value in the proposed menu than›anything, but he went above and›beyond and actually took his family›there for dinner. Having survived›that, Alex reported back to us that›we had, indeed, selected a good›restaurant. If there were any›skeptics in the group, they were›converted very quickly. Most of the›comments during the evening were most›favorable.››In response to a suggestion by Alex,›some of the members printed sample›place cards, invitations and›announcements. They added to the›success of the meeting by emphasizing›the longevity of the club and the›longevity of the tradition of annual›dinners even if one did exaggerate by›one year! Such programs as The Print›Shop and PrintPower were used to›produce them, and the designs were›really good. I only wish I knew who›did them, so I could credit the›responsible people.››It's dinners like this that›demonstrate that we're not one-sided›people. Sure, we discussed computers›a little, but conversation, at least›at our table, ranged far beyond our›common interst in Atari's classic›computers. One common interest›sometimes leads to several more, and›this makes for companionship. ›Companionship, in turn, made for a›really enjoyable evening.››Alex seemed to sum up our thoughts›when he expressed the desire to do›this again next year. My wish is›that we will still be together as a›club and that the tradition›continues.››*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*›› ()()()()()()()()()()()() ›› Ol' Hacker's Annual Christmas Dinner› › ***********************›› Well, here it is February 19,› 1992...Just in time for our 4th› annual Christmas dinner (not the 5th› as rumored by some). The event was› held at the Cafe 20 South in Baldwin.› The number in attendance was 27 at my› last count, and among those present› were many of our regular members and› their spouses, a few old timers that› we haven't seen for a while, some of› our newer members, and even a› representation of the membership of› LIAUG, our sister ATARI club on› L.I.. It was a really great turnout› of happy people, who from all› indications had a real good time.›› Dinner was delicious, and we had› a choice of a Chicken Marsala, Shell› Steak, Shrimp Parmesan, or Filet of› sole, served with vegetables, potato,› etc.. The dinner started with a› Rigatoni with Vodka-simply stupendous› appetizer, and a tasty, bowl of fresh› mixed salad. The finale was Chocolate› Mousse and coffee.›› There was much conversation› (some computer talk, but mostly a› variety of other subjects were› discussed). Some pictures were taken,› and rumor has it that Alex even had› film in his camera. All in all,› (in my opinion, and from what I heard› from others) everyone had an› enjoyable time. These annual dinners› are always a very pleasant occasion,› allowing the spouses to get to know› each other, as well as all us OL'› HACKERS. It was felt that perhaps it› might be a good idea to have our› annual dinner in February, when› people have more time, and have been› away from partying since January› 1.....What do you think about that?› Stan› ()() end ()()
