**************************************›› Hello OL' HACKER ATARI Members› and Friends!››**************************************› ›MINUTES OF THE NOVEMBER 1990 MEETING›› GENERAL MEETING:›› The weather for the NOVEMBER 10th›meeting was stormy with high winds but›as the members entered the library›meeting room you knew it was going to›be an exciting meeting. Why? First›person that was there, (very early,)›was KRIS HOLTAGAARD, testing out his›new program "WQNR DATAGRAPH BUSINESS›MANAGER" on a complete equipment sit›up he had already installed.›› ALEX PIGNATO read a beautiful "Thank›You" card from the MIKE BRYANT family.›They thanked the club members for all›the help and efforts to assist the›family since they became OL' HACKERS.›That gave ALEX an opportunity to use›his favorite saying "That's what the›club is all about!"›› Alex appointed a nominating›committee of three, AL ATKINS, JACK›GEDALIUS and HAROLD PEGLER to select a›new slate of OL' HACKER officers for›the coming elections. The proposed›slate of officers will be presented at›our DECEMBER meeting. Voting will then›take place at the JANUARY 1991›meeting.›› HORST DEWITZ'S announcements came›next. First the OL' HACKERS ANNUAL›CHRISTMAS DINNER at TIFFANY'S›RESTAURANT, 416 BEDFORD AVENUE,›BELLMORE. The date and time is TUESDAY›DECEMBER 4th, at 7:30pm. The telephone›number is (516) 826-0420.›› HORST'S announcement was that GREGG›BROWN of NAPCO has been selected by "K›E SOFT" from FRANKFORT, GERMANY to be›the AMERICAN distributor for their›software. The software will sell in›the UNITED STATES for $10.50 to›$14.50. NAPCO's mailing address for›contact is:›› SOFTWARE INFINITY› 642 WARING AVENUE› STATE COLLEGE, PA. 16801›› GREGG BROWN stated in his MUG›newsletter article "The ATARI 8-BIT›Software Drought is OVER"›› HORST then presented the club with›(3) game type programs and ATARI books›to become door prizes in the future.›› ALEX put in a strong plug for a›library disk, "SPACE #63. he passed›around about 7 or 8 pages of›documemtation explaining each program›on the disk. This disk is loaded with›graphics and utilities for P/S. He›estimates that a disk of this quality›would cost a user $40.00 plus. Then he›noted there has been very little›activity recently in the OL' HACKERS›disk library.› JOAN RYAN responded to ALEX'S›request for comments concerning the›disk newsletter, saying she likes a›hard copy to read (Like many other›people) and would appreciate seeing it›in two columns to save paper output.›She then reminded us about a program›called "TWOCOLMN.BAS" from ANTIC›magazine (around June 1989?). She›closed her letter with ..."8-BITTERLY"›(very appropriate). ALEX responded by›spelling out the new changes in our›next issue of the newsletter.› ALEX then read letters from KEN›WICKERT, A.C.E., SYRACUSE.› Since our OCTOBER meeting ALEX has›received inquires as to membership›from:› ROY J. BISBING, Springfield, Pa.› NIR DARY, Acco, Israel› RODRIGO GOMEZ, Santiago, Chile› ED HALL, Yellowknife, Canada›› The most common source of listing›for te OL' HACKERS appears to be›BELCOM, CANADA.›› MINUTES/TREASURY REPORTS:›› Since a newsletter disk would not be›available to the members this month›ALEX read the OCTOBER 13th minutes.›Later AL ATKINS gave his treasury›report. A motion to accept both as›read was made by KRIS and seconded by›GINA BRYANT. At this time ALEX›announced he had an XF551 DISK DRIVE›which a friend wanted to sell for›$175.00 but would sell to the club for›$150.00 and would the club be›interested in purchasing it. KRIS made›the motion to do so and HORST seconded›it.›› Contrary to the many rumors that are›circulating, although ATARI may have›abandoned the 8-BIT, evidently BOB›BRODIE, ATARI USER GROUP COORDINATOR,›still thinks of the 8-bit people. BOB›was nice enough to call ALEX on›NOVEMBER 8th and inquire as to how the›club was doing. Needless to say we›were very pleased that he thought of›us.›› At a J.A.C.G. meeting approximately›two years ago, ALEX first met BOB›BRODIE, and they have kept in touch›since. BOB BRODIE was the guest›speaker at the meeting.›› DOOR PRIZES:›› Again this month the club had a›large bag of door prizes. The NOVEMBER›winners were:›› MASKMAKER CONST SET H.TUTHILL› & BBK ARTIST› M.A.G.I.C. DOM 9/90 L.BRYANT› M.A.G.I.C. DOM 9/90 J.GEDALIUS› M.A.G.I.C. DOM 10/90 C.HURTADO› READER RABBIT A.SHARKIS› ERROR MESSAGE CHART A.FALCONE› JAWBREAKER A.PIGNATO›› DEMONSTRATIONS:›› Ready or not KRIS came on like a›"TIDAL WAVE" with his new "WQNR›DATAGRAPH BUSINESS MANAGER" program.›The program is a personal database and›a business tool that can be used three›ways. DataGraph allows the use of›SPARTA DOS and ATARI DOS with each›system providing special functions.›› SPARTA DOS has sub-directories and›your data can be called from any disk›drive.›› ATARI DOS allows you to binary load,›write Dos functions to a disks.›Example: load TEXT PRO.›› DataGraph is a full DESKTOP program›along with accessories which include›pull down windows and joystick›control. KRIS selected GINA BRYANT to›assist him in demonstrating his latest›program.›› The first screen showed a "MAIN MENU›BAR" across the top of the screen›listing (5) functions that are›available to the user.›› MAIN MENU BAR› ---- ---- ---›› FILES TOOLS DATA MESSAGE PRINT›› By selecting one of these functions›a window will drop down and a›directory will appear that includes›many options to be selected. An›example of one path that maybe taken›is "FILES", then a sub menu appears as›follows:›› SUB MENU› --- ----› SEARCH OPTION› CREATE A DATA FILE› CHECK LOADED FILE› SET NEW DEFAULTS› LOAD INVOICER› LOAD WQNR UTILITIES› DESKTOP INFO›› If you select "SEARCH OPTION" from›the sub-menu, the screen will split in›half and you will have a work screen.›All selections and menus remain on the›screen at all times. Your work screen›will look like this:›› SEARCH OPTIONS› ------ -------› A By File Number› B By Name› C By Address› D By City,State,Zip› E By Phone Number›› One super plus of DataGraph is that›it will search both upper and lower›case letters to find your record.›› KRIS then explained the other MAIN›MENU BAR functions:›› TOOLS Consist of DOS Type› Funtions› DATA Edits Existing File› Information› MESSAGE Edit, Save, Update, Check› Message and Print Files› PRINT Print options, NLQ, Draft,› Double Strike, and Fonts› Phone Book› Select Label and Print› Select Envelope and Print›› The "DESKTOP INFORMATION" consists›of:›› 1. Making an Invoice› 2. Pre-set Invoice›› The "UTILITIY DATA" files allows›(26) for each DataGraph Utility›Module. By creating a file›"UTILITY.DAT" you could include›WQNR.BAS files such as "TWOCOLUM",›VCRLBLR", "CALANDER", "CASSETTE",›"JOYSTICK", "JOYTEST", "INVOICE.PRG",›and many, many more.›› KRIS gets so enthused when›presenting his programs he reminds me›of the "Birthday Party Helium Balloon",›unless you tie him down, he will›become airborne. With this new program›"WQNR SOFTWARE" has taken a giant step›forward and will make 8-BITTERS›through out the country happy.›› The next demonstrator was ALEX, who›had a very tough act to follow. Alex›was to show the members ten programs,›that many of the members have, but›either put on the back burner, or›forgot about them.›› 1. PRINT DOC Antic Magazine,›modifications that was shown were made›by ALEX, shortly before the author,›ROLAND FETZER, became an OL' HACKER.›ALEX demoed the modifications that›included two disk drives and the use›of additional printing regular size or›condensed printing.›› 2. CLOCKSYS.BAS The use of a time›clock that will appear in the upper›right hand corner of the screen.›› 3. TOFORMAT.BAS Will count the›number of disk formatted and allows›the use of two disk drives.›› 4. ATASCIIC.ODE Will match the›numerical code values of letters.›› 5. TWOCOLMN.BAS ANTIC MAGAZINE,›JUNE 1989, called to the OL' HACKERS›attention by JOAN RYAN, A.C.E., ST.›LOUIS, will print two column text›files on a page.›› 6. MULTICOL.PRT Another program›that will print double columns for›text files.›› 7. ATARIDEM.COM A cute tale of›ATARI power and to show the power of›8-Bit computing. ›› 8. TOS.COM Drop down menus to demo›an ATARI ST type program.›› 9. CURSRPLS.BAS (Cursor Plus) Used›like a cursor would be used in a word›processor, using keys ctrl/shift/ltr›etc.›› 10. SEAWOLF, ALEX brought back a›naval shoot-em-up type game with›submarines, destroyers and torpedos.›He selected an unsuspecting petty›officer named MIKE BRYANT. MIKE's›score was an uneventful number and was›recorded. Then handing the joystick to›MIKE'S daughter, she proceeded to wipe›out MIKE'S score (It's great to have›the reflexes of the young).›› FUTURE MEETING DATES:›› Future meeting dates for the OL'›HACKERS ATARI USER GROUP are:›› DECEMBER 15, 1990 APRIL 13, 1991› JANUARY 12, 1991 MAY 11, 1991› FEBRUARY 9, 1991 JUNE 1, 1991› MARCH 9, 1991›› All dates are a SATURDAY and are›scheduled for the PLAINVIEW/OLD›BETHPAGE LIBRARY.›› Remember........The next OL' HACKERS›ATARI USER GROUP meeting is scheduled›for DECEMBER 15th at 11:30am.›› Sincerely,›› AL ATKINS› ›
