MINUTES OF MAY 1992 MEETING›===========================››NEW MEMBERS:›› ELLEN LENTZ, from OHIO, became a›member of the OL' HACKERS. ELLEN is a›regular contributing author to ATARI›INTERFACE MAGAZINE and she writes›articles on the 8-Bit computer. Her›husband TED is also an avid 8 Bit›user. ELLEN and TED live in Ohio. We›hope to hear a lot from ELLEN.› LOUIS DE ANGELIS joined our club.›LOUIS brought his 8-Bit equipment to›the club to be tested. It worked fine!›We have 4 NEW MEMBERS (thats right›FOUR) from ENGLAND. They are J. A.›CLARK, D. EWENS, J. MATTHENSON and D.›NEWMAN. They all are avid 8-Bitters,›who aso belong to a club in ENGLAND!› Welcome everyone to the OL'›HACKERS ATARI USERS GROUP, Inc.. May I›say that you made a wise choice. ››TREASURERS REPORT:›› We are in the black and doing›O.K., thanks to th sale of 2 disk›"DISK MANAGEMENT SYSTEM ($6.00)", and›3 disk "TURBOBASIC PROGRAMMING KIT›($7.00)".››CORRESPONDENCE:›› ALEX read a letter that he mails›out to everyone who orders a disk from›our library. In it he invites the›person to join our club. He enumerates›the benefits they will reveive by›belonging to our club.› ALEX read a letter from COWGATE,›NEWCASTLE-ON-TYNE in ENGLAND. Thia was›from the four members who joined our›club from England. See NEW MEMBERS›above. They sent us a printout of›their software list. They also sent us›8 double sided disks from England as a›gift to the club. Thanks fellows, its›obvious that you are real OL' HACKERS›already.› ALEX read a letter from ELLEN›LENTZ. In it she complimented our›newsletter. She tells us that she›really enjoys writing articles for the›8-Bit computer. ELLEN writes that she›wants to start a new feature of "ODDS›and ENDS" and would appreciate any›kind of help from our members. She›wants favorite programs or new things›that clubs are doing etc. ELLEN writes›that she just finished writing a›review of the PROGRAMMING KIT. It›should come out soon in A.I.M.›magazine. RON proposed that ELLEN›become a 1992 HONORARY MEMBER of the›club in recognition of all the work›she has done for the 8-Bit community.›ALLAN SHARKIS seconded the motion. She›was admitted by a unanimous vote.› A letter from RICHARD REASER JR.›8 Bit editor of CURRENT NOTES. He›ordered the "DISK MANAGEMENT SYSTEM."›One of his staff writers is writing a›review of all the disk cataloging›systems for the 8-Bit computer. He›also asked about our club and any›information we have that he can use in›the magazine. ALEX replied by sending›him a history of the club and some›materials that he can use in his›article.› A letter from DUG FINCH from›Connecticut. He advised that there›will be a CONNECTICUT ATARI FEST at›the SHERATON HOTEL near HARTFORD on›August 15 and 16.› A letter from LARRY TISCHBEIN our›member from QUAKERTOWN, PA. He thanked›ALEX for the 2 disks he received. He›especially liked the PSLABEL7 program.›He wanted to know how we did at the›TRENTON COMPUTER FAIR. ALEX replied,›and told him that 4 members went and›all bought equipment, i.e. computers,›printers, etc. making for a succesful›foray. ALEX said he would love to get›LARRY's articles as an out-of-town›member for our newsletter. › JACG made our MARCH/APRIL›NEWSLETTER DISK their DISK OF THE›MONTH. They especially liked ALAN›SHARKIS column of ATARI 8-BIT›NEWSLETTER REVIEWS. (Its loaded.)› A letter from ROWLAND GRANT›secretary of the GARDEN CITY ACE in›VICTORIA, CANADA he writes that they›are writing more 8-Bit articles for›their newsletter XIO 3 and for PSAN.›PSAN is back in business again. He›will send us the articles for our›NEWSLETTER.› A long letter from our member TOM›ANDREWS from SYRACUSE. TOM took our›newsletter and arc'd it and put it on›the SYRACUSE BBS. He received a lot of›responses to our newsletter.› JIM CUTLER our member from›England writes us about the 4 new›members that are joining us from›NEWCASTLE England, and sent us 4›disks. THANKS JIM!› From the POKEY NEWSLETTER in›Rochester N.Y. They thanked us for the›newsletter format and the idea to put›their newsletter on a disk. ALAN›SHARKIS said their newsletter is very›nice and the graphics are great. An›excellent newsletter. JOHN KASUPSKI is›responsible for the high quality of›each newsletter. Good work, JOHN. They›welcomed a new member HADJILA›NASSERDINE from Algeria. He was an›OL'HACKER last year. He also seems to›have become a member of (FR)ANTIC, in›TEXAS. My, he really gets around,›doesnt he?› ALEX commented about the great›support he gets from every member of›our group. Everyone is involved and›that is the reason our club is the›greatest. ALEX said this club started›on TWO premise's---The first is that›we would help each other. We all have›each others number. If one member does›not know the answer somebody else may›know it. Every member is willing and›does help. The second premise is that›we would not make money at a members›expense but still make money for the›club. An example of this program is›our DISKO PARTY where YOU bring in 5›blank disks, and then YOU can copy 5›double sided disk for 5 bucks. If you›are a corresponding member, the deal›for you is we supply the 5 disks and›copy it for you and mail it for›$8.00.››PICNIC:›› STAN SCHENFELD the Picnic›Chairman suggested that we might›consider going to CAFE 20 for a›dinner, which was so successful in›February, instead of the picnic. It›seems BRADY PARK is booked for the›whole year. There will be further›discussions at the next meeting. The›tentative date is July 18, 1992.›› ALAN SHARKIS showed us a banner›he made with PRINT POWER. PRINT POWER›is a great program to make cards,›banners and signs. He had some great›ICONS on the banner.››BBS:›› ALAN urged each member to go on›the NEW NEST BBS (516 234-4943) at›least once a week to find out what is›new. ALAN said there are 8 disks with›ICONS for PRINT POWER. They are rare›items and you can get them from the›BBS. On each disk there are about 60›icons. JIM HARRIS the SYSOP is always›willing to give you any help that you›need. ALAN was even willing to come to›a members house and show how to use›the modem if you want him to.› ALLEN ATKINS volunteered to print›out his notes of the meeting he›attended at LONG ISLAND ATARI USERS›GROUP, when they had their BBS demo.›ALLAN said his notes are very›complete. He will distribute them to›the members.› ALAN SHARKIS then made a motion›that we contribute $10.00 a month for›the time being toward the cost of›running the BBS, to be reviewed in 3›months time. The motion was carried.›The treasurer was instructed to mail a›check for $30. to JIM HARRIS, our›member and the SYSOP of the NEW NEST.› JACK GEDALIUS suggested that on›the telephone list we put down the›spouse's name so we know to whom we›are talking when we call a member, and›the spouse answers!››DOOR PRIZES:››LOUIS DE ANGELIS (Once again a new›member wins on first visit.)›BOB ULSCHMID›STAN SCHENFELD›AL ATKINS›JOE LEBER›JACK GEDALIUS›› Looks like HARRY TUTHILLs luck ran›out cause hedidnt win a door prize at›this drawing, but after showing us a›"WELCOME LOU" fancy title on screen,›ALEX quietly reran "DOOR PRIZE".., and›yes, HARRYs number came right up first›and he won the last door prize!›So he got his door prize after all!››DEMO's:›› RON FETZER demonstrated a German›Program called DESIGN MASTER. The›program DID NOT COME WITH ANY›DOCUMENTATION and it is in German.›Since RON reads German he wrote a›whole double sided disk on DESIGN›MASTER documentation. DESIGN MASTER is›not a P.D. program. It is NOT the›usual drawing program but it is the›best design or layout program›currently available for the 8-Bit›computer. It has only 3 colors black,›white and inverse. This program is›designed for PRINTING your pictures.›It can be used for graphic layouts,›charts, maps, designs etc. The program›saves the design as a 62 sector›graphic. Thus it can be used with any›kind of printing utility. RON prints›out the designs with BILLBOARD.›BILLBOARD is a shareware program that›ranks on the top of the printing›utilities. If you don't have it you›can get it from our library.› DESIGN MASTER is a two part›program. The first part is the drawing›program. The 2nd part is the HARDCOPY›or printing program. The HARDCOPY›program is O.K. but BILLBOARD is more›flexible and you can print your›designs from very small to wall size.›› RON showed how you can load two›pictures into the DESIGN MASTER. One›goes into BANK #1 and the other goes›into BANK #2. You can paste and cut›between the two pictures. It has about›10 different text sizes you can use.›It has a cross hair cursor as well as›regular cursors. It has 11 different›drawing modes and a great tool›section. This program also works great›with the ATARI TRACK BALL, or›JOYSTICK. This program is designed to›PRINT out your picture. It is NOT a›screen drawing program primarily. The›documentation disk that RON wrote is›available from our library and it is›P.D. and the price is $3.00, for those›of you who have the PROGRAM itself.› ALEX demoed a finance program›that does ALL the things that you ever›want to do or need to know. It figures›out returns on your investments,›mortgage payments, installment loans,›annuity or pension income, devaluation›of the dollar, mortgage comparisons,›paycheck calculations, property›expenses and many more items. The disk›is in the library - a must have disk!›This is disk #61 in our library,›called "OL' HACKERS FINANCE DISK".› We saw another program called›POKER MASTER. ALEX played poker and›lost his shirt to the computer. This›was not a P.D. disk. It is a great›card game program.›› ALEX showed the program›"TITLCARD.BAS". This is one of the›best programs you can get to create›titles for your screens. If you use›the program list it first and read›line 0 for quick docs. More DOCS are›seperate. You can draw boxes around›the screen. Decide on the size of the›text. Mix different size texts on the›screen, change colors etc. If you save›these screens they will be over 100›sectors long. The program cannot do›special characters such as #,$,% etc.›It can only use letters and numbers.›You can have a rainbow or flashing›display etc. The program uses the›FORCED READ MODE. This means that the›program modifies itself and then it›reads the NEW code and executes it.›Only ATARI COMPUTERS can do that. (BUT›ITS ONLY A GAME MACHINE, RIGHT?)››Submitted by› RON FETZER››>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>END<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<››
