Ian Goodall

Ian thinks people, many of them in influential positions, largely fail to understand the enormous benefits that computers, with the essential ingredient of good quality software, can bring to the education of young and old alike.

Before the emergence of the Internet, which will do more for learning than any other single development this decade, Ian founded Creative Curriculum Software to produce and market innovative educational software.

As Sales & Marketing Director for the Argo Interactive Group plc, Ian commissioned Mike Matson to develop and maintain innovative and unique educational resources for young children. Under the name ArgoSphere, the resources are available over the Internet and can be used on any suitable browser-equipped computer at school and at home.

Brought up on the Isle of Islay, off the west coast of Scotland, Ian benefited from an excellent Scottish education. On Islay he went to Bunnahabhain Primary School (maximum class size of 4) and to Bowmore High School. His parents moved back to the mainland in 1960 and he went to Buckhaven High then to St Andrews University (Queens College, Dundee) where he read mechanical engineering and developed specialised software for his thesis.

Ian and his wife Sheila have three children, Jennifer, Alan and Fiona, and have recently become grandparents for the first time (Katie was born to Jennifer and Kevin on 3rd November). Ian is keen on photography, video production, seeking out real pubs and pints of great ale, cycling and sailing. For his next life he needs to win the Lottery first.
