Llamas and alpacas are camelids. This means that they are members of the camel family. They eat grass or hay and chew cud like sheep and cattle. Both llamas and alpacas can live for 20 years. The main difference between the two animals is size. Alpacas are usually between 45 and 90kg while llamas are between 110 and 200kg. You can't tell an alpaca from a llama by its colour as both can be a variety of colours with spots and patches of different colours. They have one cria (baby) per year. |
