Connecting to ClaraNET with your Computer

Although ClaraNET does not currently offer a software package for systems other than Windows, there is no reason you cannot connect, provided you have the software listed below and a modem. You will need the following software:

1. A Dialler

You may have to contact your software dealer to obtain the dialler software for your system.

2. Browser or Email Software

You can download this software for free from the Internet, or purchase it commercially. You will probably want a mail program, and a web browser at the very least.

Setting Up the Dialler.

Every dialler is slightly different; however the same basic information is required by each.

Service Provider Name: ClaraNET

Modem settings:

Tel. no. to dial:  0845 081 4000 
Init string: varies by modem - try ATZ or AT&F 
Flow Control: varies by modem - try NONE 
Use PAP authentication: YES 
User name (or 'login'): you choose when you open an account 
Password: you choose when you open an account 
 

TCP settings:

Gateway address (sometimes called Router): leave blank
Use default gateway: YES
IP address: leave blank
Subnet Mask: leave blank
Obtain an IP address automatically: YES
Domain Name: clara.net 
DNS address: 195.8.69.7
Secondary DNS address: 195.8.69.12
 
E-mail settings:
(not all of these settings are required by all email programs)

Mail server: mail.clara.net
Pop server: mail.clara.net
SMTP server: mail.clara.net
Pop account: <your-login-name>@mail.clara.net
Account name: <your-login-name>
E-mail address: <your-login-name>@clara.net
Reply to address: <your-login-name>@clara.net
 
 
There is some confusion caused by the fact that some email programs require you to enter your account name (<your-login-name>) and server name (mail.clara.net) separately and some want the account all together (<your-login-name>@mail.clara.net).

Other client settings:

FTP server: ftp.clara.net


Please note that because there are so many different software packages available we are not currently able to offer technical support for software other than Windows.
 

You will now need to cancel the signup by pressing ctrl alt and delete and ending the ClaraNET Signup task. This signup software will only work with Internet Explorer.
