Welcome to Count Floyd`s Movie News. Who is Count Floyd, you say? The original Count Floyd was the host of "Monster Chiller Horror Theater" on SCTV. Count Floyd was the scary scary vampire, played by Joe Flaherty, who would introduce you to that evening's movie. He would always promise it would be scary but it seldom was so then he had to try to weasel out of it by blaming it on the director in the booth. I am such a huge fan of Count Floyd that I am picking up the torch as an homage to him and all of SCTV. So now the lights dim and the curtain rises on Count Floyd's Movie News....

• Godzilla will be stomping his way in an American film being put together by Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin who made "Independence Day" and "Stargate". You know the f/x will be awesome. I believe that New Line Cinema has the Godzilla license until the year 2000 when it reverts back to Toho Studios in Japan.

• Alien - It has been said that Sigourney Weaver will return as Ripley in the latest of the "Alien" series to kick some boney rump. You say she died in the last one? Well, in SCI-FI no one is really dead forever. It is rumored that she will be cloned because of her special skills in fighting the creatures.

• The Prisoner - A theatrical version of the 1960's cult TV classic "The Prisoner" is in the works and will be coming to a theater near you. I read somewhere that Patrick McGoohan, who wrote, directed and starred in the TV series, will be contributing to the project.

• Brosnan - Pierce Brosnan will be back in the next 007 feature titled "Tomorrow Never Dies" which is due out in December of '97. It was just announced that Teri Hatcher has signed onto the film. The villain will be played by Jonathan Pryce of the Infinity Q-45 commercials. Michelle Yeoh will appear as 007's able assistant. Did I say able? I feel the most exciting thing about the upcoming Bond feature will be Michelle Yeoh. She is considered by many to be Hong Kong's number one action actress. She has appeared in such films as "The Heroic Trio" series, "Butterfly and Sword" and "Tai Chi Master". Watch for her to kick some bad boys.

• Mighty Joe Young is being remade by Disney. The original film was made in 1949. The story revolves around an ape and a beautiful woman who are brought back to "civilization". The film will star Bill Paxton and Regina King. All is not well on the set. Director of Photography Don Peterman suffered leg fractures and head injuries when a camera boom platform collapsed on him on July 2nd. The film is due for a Memorial Day 1998 release.

• Peter Jackson will be directing the remake of "King Kong" for Universal Pictures. Possible leading men being considered are Arnold, Bruce and Jean-Claude. It appears that Universal has put the project on hold for now until casting is completed. Peter Jackson is best known for such films as "Bad Taste", "Dead Alive" and "The Frighteners".

I would like to recommend Peter Jackson`s first film "Bad Taste" which is a low budget gore-fest that shows you don't have to be Hollywood to "do" Hollywood.

I would also recommend you seek out anything with Michelle Yeoh, especially "The Heroic Trio" or "Butterfly and Sword", for for your daily dose of "wup ass".
