Professional Power Cadd is the most powerful and easiest to use Cadd program available today. ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿ ³DISCOVER THE POWER of PROFESSIONAL POWER CADD³ ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE AN EXPERT TO USE THIS PROGRAM. Professional Power Cadd was originally developed to fill a need that was unfulfillable by any other program. As is common today, a majority of Cadd programs are slow, clumsy and complicated. As the years have gone by and customer demands have increased, the traditional packages have added on to the existing program's foundation making their packages top heavy, bulky and loosely footed. ProCadd Welcome Kit Page 1 In 1985, when no commercial Cadd program with the power and versatility that a successful business required was available, the author of Professional Power Cadd set out to fill that need for his own operations. His primary goal was the development of a Cadd package that was above all else, simple to use. ProCadd requires NO SCHOOLING whatsoever. Within a few short minutes, the novice user can begin to draw basic elements which would take days or weeks to achieve on other programs. ProCadd's registered version 7.0.0 is compatible with most graphics programs including Corel Draw 3.0. Corel can directly import ProCadd drawings and manipulate them to wrap, stretch, graphically accentuate or add 3D. Version 7.0.0 includes the Corel Draw 3.0 interface. ProCadd is currently used in construction, manufacturing, engineering, design and development in fields including residential, commercial, electronics, electro-mechanical, marine and aerospace. At the end of this document is a features list. If there is any doubt about the Absolute Abilities of Professional Power Cadd please take a moment to review them and compare. In the following dialogue we will discuss the installation of ProCadd and walk you through a brief overview of samples prepared to give the new user an idea of the power of ProCadd. ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿ ³WHAT THE INSTALLATION HAS DONE³ ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ As a result of installing ProCadd, you,ve been given a number of files including the program, drawing files, symbol files, session files, help files, plotter drivers, fonts and various documents as described below. 1. cadmanul.txt - ProCadd Operations Manual text file The manual formed in popular word processor formats is available on the ProCadd BBS. ProCadd Welcome Kit Page 2 2. relnotes.txt - The Release Notes document includes product information including update information. 3. 1st_info.txt - This document contains price and ordering information. 4. params.txt - This document is a description of the available custom program options as can be inserted in the Parameters File. This information is also available in Appendix D of the ProCadd Oprerations Manual. ProCadd's installation routine will also create directories as required as well as install and prepare all files necessary. The directories created will be as follows: \CAD650 -> program, text, and help files \drawings -> drawing file storage \session -> parameter and entity files \plotters -> printer and plotter drivers \fonts -> font type files \symbols -> symbol file storage \stdparts -> parts file storage As a matter of interest we have listed below the file by file contents of these dirctories so that verification of completness can be ascertained. \CAD650 \drawings \session \fonts cad.exe sampelec.dwg dnm.ses f0.s 1st_info.txt sampfil.dwg ent.ses f1.s cad.ico samphous.dwg kotek3 f1.w caddstar.phd samplay.dwg kotek4 cadmanul.txt sampsen.dwg params params.txt samptxt.dwg sp.ses phdr.exe sym.ses procad.bat mary3 relnotes.txt mary4 install.txt ProCadd Welcome Kit Page 3 \plotters \symbols \stdparts hi electsym.sym hp mecansym.sym pr sp ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿ ³HOW TO START³ ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ While installing ProCadd, you were asked to choose whether to allow the installation routine to create a C:\CAD650 directory for your program files or to specify an alternate location. Assuming that the default was acceptable, you can go to your hard disk drive C by typing from the DOS prompt, "C:" and "enter". This will take you to, if you're not already there, the C drive. Go to the \CAD650 directory by typing "cd" for change directory and without any spaces "\CAD650" and the "enter". To confirm your present location, type "cd" and "enter". Your current location will display at the prompt. This should be C:\CAD650>. To begin the program, type "procad" and "enter". The program will start and the active drawing will load as a sample. Note that if there is not a mouse driver present, the program will not start. ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿ ³QUICK TOUR³ ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ In your \CAD650\drawings directory we have installed a set of sample drawings to give you an idea of some of ProCadd's capabilities. ProCadd Welcome Kit Page 4 The first one that you see after installation and execution is a cross section of a sensor valve. Feel free to play with it as you wish. If you should exit ProCadd without saving the drawing it will be automatically stored as the "active file" and it will appear upon re-entering the program. This sensor drawing is saved in your \drawings sub-directory with the name "sampsen.dwg". In order to see the sample drawing as it actually is and likewise would plot, the text must be displayed in real form. At any time you can go to the text menu by clicking on "TEXT" from the main menu. Click on "FAST TEXT". This will reload the drawing with the text reappearing in a real scaled and styled text mode. This mode is handy in visualizing the actual text as stored. This is called "REAL TEXT" mode. This mode taxes the computer's resources, however, so normally you might prefer to operate in the "FAST TEXT" mode. To get back to the main menu click on the sub menu title at the top of the menu section or press escape. Now let's take a look at another sample drawing. Go to the "DWG FILES" menu by clicking on this menu item. Click on "GET DRAWING". A selection of the contents of your \DRAWINGS directory will appear. Select "samphous.dwg" with your mouse and then click on "GET DRAWING" at the bottom of the screen. A sample drawing of a house plan will be retrieved and loaded for you. Notice that beneath the Drawing File menu items is what we call the Window View Locator. This section tells you that the current view of the drawing is at 1/128 real size. This is a magnification indicator. ProCadd Welcome Kit Page 5 Click on the number "4" at the top of the Locator. Notice that the drawing reloads zoomed x4 ending up at 1/32 size. Similarly clicking on 1/4 will return it to 1/128. Next click on the edge of the Window View Locator's rectangle outline. This will take you directly to the "WINDOW" function menu. With your mouse zoom in x4 again so that you can see some specifics of the drawing. Click on a point of the drawing and notice how the drawing reloads with that point as the new center of the screen. If you click repeatedly at one side of the drawing, it will continually redraw moving each time to that side. This is called "Panning". Notice that the rectangle within the rectangle of the Window View Locator moves with each pan. The smaller rectangle represents the view within the larger drawing represented by the outside of the Locator. The next sample drawing is an electrical connection and layout schematic that will give you an idea of the versatility of ProCadd. From the Drawing Files function menu item select get "GET DRAWING" and pick the drawing file "sampelec.dwg" from your drawings directory. Notice that ProCadd has been used to create a graphic representation and schematic, depicting an appropriate connection scheme to be used as a assembly drawing. Next let's take a look at some samples of text available the ProCadd user. Use the same "GET DRAWING" sub function within the "DWG FILES" sub set and load the "samptxt.dwg" sample file. Assuming that you are still in Fast Text mode, the text will appear with the half rectangle outlines indicating an outline of their Real Text size. Return to the "TEXT" function menu and toggle to "REAL TEXT" for an accurate visualization. While in the text mode you can move or edit any of the text by selecting that text with your mouse and then using standard text editing methods to change letters or the variable parameters in the menu section to change the size or style. To move text click on the "MOVE TEXT" menu item and drag the string to any position you like. ProCadd Welcome Kit Page 6 It is important that you press enter whenever you've finished editing, to indicate that you're done. Also, when editing, the Fast Text mode makes it much easier. After you've finished practicing with text editing, go back to the Drawing Files menu and load a file named "sampfil.dwg". Here is a sample of various filling, shading and sectioning that can be done in the "SECTION" function menu set. Next load a file named "samplay.dwg". We've given you this drawing as a demonstration of layers. Layers are groups of elements that may be drawn within a drawing and used as overlays to be added or removed. Different component types might be drawn on different layers. Once this sample is loaded, go to the "WINDOW" function menu. The different colored bars in the sample are on layers two through six. At the attributes menu click on "Layer 2" and it will toggle off. Click on "RELOAD" or press "CTRL-R" and notice that the top yellow bar disappears. Toggle Layer 2 on again and Reload and it comes back. You can do likewise with other layers three through six. If the layer status of an element is unknown, you can go to the "ATTRIBUTES" function menu and point out the element in question. The descriptive parameters will alter to indicate the Attributes of the object element. To begin drawing one of your own, go to the Drawing Files menu and select "New Drawing". Once selected you will have the option of toggling between "US UNITS" and "METRIC UNITS" as a standard for your drawing. Click on Drawing Files header on the menu to return to the main menu and select a drawing function such as Line. Instead of returning to the main menu you could have simply pressed "F1" for Line to take you directly there. Here you can practice drawing lines using different formats to define them. ProCadd Welcome Kit Page 7 Likewise use other function to draw Rectangles, Circles, Ellipses, Spline Curves, Fillets, etc... Hopefully you have enough to begin understanding and using ProCadd. Included in your program files is a file named "cadmanul.txt" which you can read with any text editor or word processor. This file contains a complete operations manual with system requirements. Also while in ProCadd you can click on the "HELP" item on the menu or press CTRL-F1 and go directly to our on-line help menu where you can get help on all user functions. If you still need assistance please feel free to contact us via our support BBS or voice lines.
