COURSE : Birch Point LOCATION: Lake Superior TYPE : Fantasy Located on a peninsula in Lake Superior, Birch Point was skillfully carved out of large stands of birch trees in the great northern woods. Two rivers flow toward the big lake and there are some small lakes and ponds there. Also, pine trees dot the landscape with a generous helping of hardwoods especially maples. The underbrush is carpeted with ferns and sumacs. In places, the land is quite hilly, Evidence of long gone periods of glaciation. The prevailing winds are from the Nortwest accross the lake and on some days can be quite strong. In the fall, after the passage of a cold front, the days are cool and dry with deep blue skies that contrast with intense coloration of the foliage. Perfect conditions for playing Golf in the waning days of autumn. The last week in September is when the Fantasy Computer Golf Association Fall Classic is held. Top computer golfers from around the world converge here to compete for top prizes. The winner has there name permanently recorded on a bronzed floppy disk. The first player to score an ace on the third hole wins a 486-50 mhz PC. Finally, after the tournament, around 5:30, you can go to the club house dining room and enjoy a wonderful dinner from a greatly varied menu. Ask for a window seat, then relax and take in the view. As the sun sets, its rays become more red in color. Looking out of the window, you see part of the course with the trees absolutely ablaze, mirrored in the calm waters of Birch Lake. AHHH.
