MindSpring PipeLine+ 2.6 for Windows 3.11 Conflicts and Fixes * Error: Cannot Access Windows Registry * Error: PCTCPAPI 3.0 pctcp kernel and the virtual device driver are not loaded * Error: WINEXEC=8 * GPF in KRNL386.EXE * Could not log into the mail server. Check your username and password. * Could not retrieve usage stats... * Could not retreive message of the day... * Unable to locate the installation log file ''. * Error in VB40016.DLL -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Error: Cannot Access Windows Registry To correct this error you will need to restore your Windows Registry to its original state. 1 Exit Windows 2 Change to your windows directory and type: rename reg.dat reg.msp 3 Restart Windows. 4 Once in Program Manager, select Run from the File menu. Type regedit and click OK. You will then see a window titled Registration Info Editor. 5 Select Merge registration file from the File menu. 6 In the File Name list, change to the windows\system directory and select the file named SETUP.REG. Click OK. A message appears, confirming that the information has been successfully registered. The registration database is now updated with the original registration information that came with Windows.   Error: PCTCPAPI 3.0 pctcp kernel and the virtual device driver are not loaded This error is usually due to an invalid winsock being loaded into memory. You will need to rename all winsock.dll files on your system except for MindSpring's winsock.dll To search and rename other winsock.dll files: 1 From Program Manager, double-click on your Main group and then double-click File Manager. 2 Select Search from the File menu. 3 In the Search for: field, type winsock.dll In the Start from: field, type c:\ Search all subdirectories should be checked. Click OK. 4 When the search is complete, the results will be displayed in a window titled Search Results. 5 You should rename all winsock.dll files to winsock.msp except for the winsock.dll in c:\pipeplus\bin\. To rename a file from the Search Results window, simply click on the file once, and then select Rename from the File menu.   Error: WINEXEC=8 This error is the result of not enough free system resources. Close all applications before running the MindSpring Access Panel by hitting CTRL+ESC to bring up the Task List. Select the application you wish to close and then click End Task. If you continue to encounter this error when there are no open applications, you should refer to your MSDOS documentation to increase available conventional memory.   GPF in KRNL386.EXE Sometimes the Install Shield Wizard encounters a problem when creating the MindSpring PipeLine + program group in Program Manager. If you double-click on any Program Item in the MindSpring PipeLine + group and receive a GPF in KRNL386.EXE, simple delete that Program Item, and then create a new Program Item for that application.   Could not log into the mail server. Check your username and password. Could not retrieve usage stats... Could not retreive message of the day... MindSpring PipeLine+ is designed to accomplish three tasks immediately after a connection is established: check for mail waiting, check your account usage statistics, and display the MindSpring Daily Announcements. If you receive any one of the above messages, but are able to connect successfully (evidenced by the ability to load Web pages in Netscape Navigator), chances are that your UserID or Mailbox, or Domain are not set correctly in MindSpring PipeLine+. All user information, including your domain, can be set from the MindSpring PipeLine + Setup. To run MindSpring PipeLine + Setup: 1 With MindSpring PipeLine+ closed, switch to Program Manager, and then double-click on the MindSpring PipeLine + group. 2 Double-click MSSetup. 3 Complete the PipeLine+ Setup window. Make sure that your UserID is correct, that Mailbox has your primary Mailbox name, and that Domain reflects your email address. 4 Click OK.   Unable to locate the installation log file ''. This is a result of Install Shield's failure to creat the necessary installation log file and place it in the proper directory. You can, however, manually uninstall the MindSpring PipeLine + software from your system by following these steps: 1 While in Program Manager, select Run from the File menu. 2 Type sysedit and click OK. Next you will see a window titled System Configuration Editor. 3 Select c:\windows\system.ini from the Window menu. Scroll down until you see a section labelled [386Enh]. Find the three lines added by MindSpring PipeLine+ Setup and remove them completely. 4 Select Save from the File menu and then Exit from System Configuration Editor. 5 Once back in Program Manager, double-click your Main group and then double-click File Manager. 6 Click on the drive icon where you installed the MindSpring PipeLine+ software. 7 Click once on the pipeplus folder. 8 Select Delete from the File menu. Click Yes to all when prompted. When all files are deleted, you will be back at File Manager. You must restart your computer for the changes to take effect. After restart, MindSpring PipeLine + is now removed from your system.   Error in VB40016.DLL If you receive this error message when you try to run the MindSpring PipeLine + Access Panel, then first disable all other applications. Next, edit your config.sys file and add the line stacks=9,256 (or modify an existing stack= line if it already exists) and then restart your computer.
