PC GAMER FEBRUARY 1998 CD README FILE Hello, and welcome to yet another fun-filled, demo-packed CD of Gaming Goodness(tm), courtesy of PC Gamer. We've got a great collection for you, from the newest (and some old favorites) racing games out there, including a 3Dfx-only Need for Speed II SE demo that'll blow your socks off. Of course, if you don't have a 3Dfx card, don't worry -- the full game doesn't require it, and as soon as an non-accelerated demo is available, we'll stick it on The CD. Each month, we'll try to create one of these PCG-READ.TXT files that contain up-to-date information about the demos and front end on The CD. We may not get everything, though, so if you run into anything we don't document here, first check out the Disc Pages in the magazine (starting on page 8). If you don't see the answer to your question there, use your web browser to surf to out CD Support web site at http://support.imagine-inc.com. Our FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) are out of date, but now that we've finally hired a new Assistant Disc Editor, William Harms, they'll hopefully be up-to-date by the time you read this. Some things to watch for while using The CD this month: ULTRA 3D PINBALL: LOST CONTINENT We had this demo lock up a couple of times on us right when it first loads. But after rebooting, it worked fine. So if this program locks up on you, try shutting off your computer and restarting the program. FRONT END STUFF With some of the install programs that run through the front end, a window will pop up behind the front-end graphics. You might not see it if you don't either minimize or close the front end. If you try installing the demo while the installation program is already running, you might get some errors. We always recommend that if you use the front end to install the demos, make sure you exit out from it before you actually run them. Sometimes demos will conflict with the front end, making the demo do weird things. In extreme situations, we put a warning in the front end itself, but it's a good rule of thumb to use the front end to install the demos, then close it to run them. TECHNICAL SUPPORT If you have any difficulties with any of the demos on The CD, please contact the manufacturer of the demo. The technical support numbers for each publisher are listed on The CD, as well as in the Disc Pages. The publishers of the game are much more suited to handle technical support for their demos than we are. However, if you're having problems with the front end itself, (like video not playing, or lack of sound), you can send in a report by going to our support site at http://support.imagine-inc.com. Fill out the form, and we'll try to get a response to you as soon as possible. For Customer Service inquiries, like renewing a subscription or getting back issues, you can write or call the numbers listed below: Customer Service PO Box 51199 Boulder, CO 80322 subscribe@pcgamer.com (800) 898-7159 Remember, all other inquiries should be directed to our support site at http://support.imagine-inc.com.
