Howdy! Welcome to the Web World of
Larry Edwards
(No, I'm not praying. I'm posing a pointed question at an America's
Cup press conference.)
I'm a journalist by trade, but now specialize in Webtop publishing
as a founding partner in
Events On
Line.
That's the outfit that designed and developed the content for
the hugely popular
America's Cup On Line.
I'm also the editor of our new on-line sailing magazine
The Sailing
Site
and publish a personal newsletter called the
Red Pint Rag
(not on the Web yet, but it's coming).
Cool Stuff I Like To Do
- Sailing (especially on the ocean)
- Play the fiddle and string bass (old-time and bluegrass music,
and traditional jazz, especially at the NOTFC, Weiser, Idaho, third full
week in June)
- Wine tasting (reds mostly, but a cool Gundlach Bundschu
gewurtztraminer on hot summer day is mighty fine, too)
- Fart around with HTML (like make it do things it's not supposed
to be able to do .
- Read (I lean toward mysteries these days -- Sue Grafton, Dick
Francis, Sara Paretsky -- but I've enjoyed many a good Louis L'Amour Western,
as well as stuff by Mark Twain, John Irving, P.J. O'Rourke, Kurt Vonnegut
and W. Shakespeare)
Web Sites Not to Be Missed (beyond the obvious)
Sounding Off
- If you want to know what's wrong with America today, just watch
day-time TV talks shows.
- Professional sports has gotten too big for its britches.
Pet Peeve(s)
- Brainless TV and radio news readers who massacre the English
language.
- TV newscasts that insist on providing subtitles, then misspelling
the words.
- Handsets on fax machines, obviously designed by a direct descendant of
a torturer from the Spanish Inquisition.
Ponderables
Why is it that when you're dog tired and ready to pound the pillow,
that after brushing your teeth you're suddenly wide awake? (I lose a lot
of sleep over this one. ;-})
Some of My Favorite Things
- TV Show(s)
- Lovejoy (the Brits do know how to produce quality, prime-time stuff)
- MASH (love those late-night reruns of Hawkey, Hotlips and the gang)
- Wine - Cabernet Sauvignon, with enough oak that you can feel the
wood grain, and so dry it leaves dust in your mouth.
- Tomato and cheese omelette (fresh, ripe tomatoes only, please -- not
the fried green variety, especially in book form -- yeck! -- talk about a
waste of good trees ...)
- A fresh breeze over the stern quarter and a leisurely following sea (on
a course for Mexico, Hawaii, or, better yet, Rangiroa).
- Playing electronic hearts (lowest score = 1 point; still striving for
that elusive 0 -- Anna, Lynda and Terri, eat your hearts out. :-).
