Selecting by Region

1 Selected faces in a circular region

1 Selected vertices in a fence region

1 Selected edges in a circular region

Using any of the four selection modes, you can select one or more objects by dragging the mouse to define a region around them.

Region Selection

By default, when you drag the mouse a rectangular region is created. When you release the mouse all objects within and touched by the region are selected. The following topics describe how you can change each of these settings.

Setting Region Type

The type of region you define when you drag the mouse is set by the Region flyout button to the right of the Select Object button. You can choose three types of region:

Setting Region Inclusion

Two items in the Edit menu let you set the method for selecting objects by region.

Choose Edit menu > Region to display a submenu of the following two items. Only one can be active at a time.

The Window/Crossing toggle on the status bar also switches between these two modes.

Procedure

To make a region selection using defaults:

  1. Click Select Object.

  2. Drag the mouse to define a region.

    A dash-lined rectangle appears.

  3. Release the mouse button to select all objects within or touching the region.

    The selected objects turn white.

You can also use the Select and Transform buttons on the toolbar to select by region. You must start defining the region over an unselectable area of the viewport. Otherwise, youÆll transform the object beneath your mouse when you begin to drag.
