System requirements OS : OS/2 Warp V3 This product may not be compatible with the computer under a Network environment (Client-Server, Peer to peer, and so on.). 2. OS/2 Warp driver The following three files that are necessary for installing OS/2 Warp driver for the KXL-D740 CD-ROM player are contained on the setup disk. KME4OS2.SYS Enabler for the Interface Card. This file is located after the KME4OS2.SYS in the CONFIG.SYS. KME4OS2.DDP The OS/2 Warp driver is installed by the information of this file. 3. Installing OS/2 Warp using KXL-D740 This section gives you instructions how to install OS/2 Warp using KXL-D740. If your computer is already installed OS/2 Warp, please refer to "4. Installing KXL-D740 OS/2 Warp driver". **************************************************************** You can't install OS/2 Warp using KXL-D740 to the hard disk which connects with the SCSI PC card. **************************************************************** 3-1. Getting the Card Service Driver and Socket Service Drivers If you cannot operate KXL-D740, install on DOS before continuing. (1) Connect KXL-D740 to your computer and turn on KXL-D740, then start your computer on DOS. (2) Insert the OS/2 CD-ROM into KXL-D740. (3) Insert the supplied KXL-D740's Setup Disk into drive A. (4) At the prompt[C:\], type "A:\SETUP1 D" and press Enter. ( Where "D" is the KXL-D740's drive letter. ) The PCMCIA files are copied from the list below to your computer on C:\KMEOS2. OS/2 Warp(DOS/Windows) UNPACK.EXE D:\OS2IMAGE\DISK_2 PCMCIADD D:\OS2IMAGE\DISK_12 PCMCIA D:\OS2IMAGE\DISK_14 OS/2 Warp UNPACK.EXE D:\OS2IMAGE\DISK_2 PCMCIADD D:\OS2IMAGE\DISK_10 PCMCIA D:\OS2IMAGE\DISK_12 OS/2 Warp Connect UNPACK.EXE D:\OS2IMAGE\DISK_2 PCMCIADD D:\OS2IMAGE\DISK_14 PCMCIA D:\OS2IMAGE\DISK_14 (5) Restart your computer with "installation Diskette for CD-ROM" and "Diskette for CD-ROM", then the message "OS/2 cannot locate or operate any CD-ROM drive." appears. If your computer has an internal CD-ROM drive, this message dose not appear. You should install OS/2 Warp using the internal CD-ROM drive. (6) Press Enter, then your computer is prompt. (7) Insert the supplied KXL-D740's Setup Disk into drive A. (8) Type "A:\SETUP2" and press Enter. The Card Service Driver and Socket Service Drivers are made on the directory of C:\OS2. The message "The system cannot find the path specified." appear at four times, but it is not problem. 3-2. Making a copy of "Diskette for CD-ROM" (1) Restart your computer to get a DOS prompt. (2) Make a copy "Diskette for CD-ROM" which OS/2 Warp supplied to a 1.44MB diskette, and write "DISK for KXL-D740" on it's label. +--------------------------------------------+ | C:\> diskcopy a: a: | +--------------------------------------------+ (3) To make a free space of "DISK for KXL-D740", delete the FD16-700.ADD, the IBM2SCSI.ADD, and the BTSCSI.ADD from it. +--------------------------------------------+ | C:\> del a:fd16-700.add | | C:\> del a:ibm2scsi.add | | C:\> del a:btscsi.add | +--------------------------------------------+ (4) Copy the Card Service Driver(PCMCIA.SYS) from C:\OS2 to "DISK for KXL-D740". (5) Copy the correct Socket Service Driver from the list below to "DISK for KXL-D740". All files listed below are in the C:\OS2 directory. (6) Copy the KME4OS2.SYS and the KME4OS2.ADD from C:\OS2 to "DISK for KXL-D740". (7) Add the following four lines at the bottom of the CONFIG.SYS in "DISK for KXL-D740". Installing OS/2 Warp (1) Connect KXL-D740 to your computer and turn on. (2) Start installing OS/2 Warp according as the manual of OS/2 Warp. (3) The following message appear. |~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| | Remove the diskette from drive A. | | Insert the OS/2 Diskette 1 into drive A. | | Then press Enter. | +--------------------------------------------+ (4) Insert "DISK for KXL-D740" into drive A, and press Enter. Three error messages appears, but it is not problem. (5) When System Configuration window appears, click the icon [PCMCIA], and select the name of your computer. If the name is not on the list, choose "IBM ThinkPad 360". If you click [OK], you must modify the CONFIG.SYS as follow, after restarting your computer. (8) Double-click the icon [OS/2 System]. (9) Double-click the icon [Productivity]. (10) Double-click the icon [OS/2 System Editor]. (11) Open the CONFIG.SYS. (13) Restart your computer. You can use your computer on OS/2 Warp with KXL-D740. 4. Installing KXL-D740 OS/2 Warp driver This section gives you instructions how to install KXL-D740 OS/2 Warp driver. You must install the PCMCIA device driver, before installing KXL-D740 OS/2 Warp driver. Make sure that the PCMCIA device driver is installed. 4-1 PCMCIA device driver (1) Connect KXL-D740 to your computer and turn on, then start your computer. (2) Double-click the icon [OS/2 System]. (3) Double-click the icon [System Setup]. (4) Double-click the icon [Selective Install]. (5) Check the column of [PCMCIA Support]. If it is "No Support Installed", install the PCMCIA device driver according as the manual of OS/2 Warp. In the another case, the PCMCIA device driver is already installed. 4-2 KXL-D740 OS/2 Warp driver (1) Double-click the icon [OS/2 System]. (2) Double-click the icon [System Setup]. (3) Double-click the icon [Device Driver Install]. (4) Insert the supplied Setup Disk into drive A, and click [Install...]. (7) The message which is "Exit the program" appears, click [Yes]. You must do the next section. (9) Double-click the icon [Selective Install]. (10) Check the column of [CD-ROM Device Support] case of [None]: Click [CD-ROM Device Support] button. Select [OTHER] from [Select CD-ROM Device(s)], and click [OK]. Continue installing according as the message of OS/2 Warp. case of not [None]: Close [System Configuration] window. (11) Restart your computer. You can use your computer on OS/2 Warp with KXL-D740. 5. Error Message ERROR MESSAGE ********************************************************************* * The device driver KME4OS2.SYS specified in the BASEDEV= statement * * on line xx of the CONFIG.SYS file was not installed. Line xx * * is ignored. * ********************************************************************* Possible Cause: The KME4OS2.SYS couldn't start, because the PCMCIA device driver did not load. Solution: * If the PCMCIA is not installed, install it. * Check the CONFIG.SYS to make sure that the KME4OS2.SYS is located after the PCMCIA.SYS and the IBM2SS01.SYS. If not, please edit. Supplement and Troubleshooting Guide 6-1. Connecting to SCSI I/F board on desktop computer If you are using the CD-ROM with a desktop computer, a SCSI board is necessary. 6-2. Terminator setting Please set the terminator switch according to the conditions of the CD-ROM player. ON: when the player is connected to the computer system. OFF: when using independently as an audio player (power consumption can be saved). The factory setting is ON. 6-3. Insertion / Removal of the PC card with the power on You can insert or take out the PC card with the computer turned on. For example, you have connected the CD-ROM player, and then you want to use the FAX modem card. Change the card to the FAX modem card and use. Then, change it back to the PC card and continue. However, in this case if you leave the computer power on, also leave the CD-ROM power on, and put the card into the slot. If there is more than one card slot, make sure to put the PC card back into the same slot as before.
