Binary files

Binary file is any file, which can contain besides text some other data (like saved game positions, sound, map etc.). In this category are multimedia and image files too, but UniView can differ between most formats automatically. If not, that file will be opened in binary format using HexView, which is a deal of UniView executable and it's not required to install additional plugins. HexView will probably not help to most users, but for it can be used at least to get basic informations about file (eg. UniView can't actually open Office files DOC, XLS..., but in binary view you can see at least a small amount of informations - for example in some cases text).

Towards binary files are belonging executable files like EXE, DLL and COM. Most of these files are currently protected by copyright law and it's prohibited to change them. But bigger danger is to change these files if you don't know, what are data changed used to. You can then corrupt whole file and executing it can cause data loss on your computer! Therefore I don't recommend to change following file types: EXE, COM, DLL, OCX, SYS, CPL, CPX, VXD using HexView if you don't know, what exactly are you doing.

HexView is based on program FRHED, which is Public domain. Additional informations can you get, if you are working with HexView, press right button on mouse and select item 'About HexView' from pulldown menu.

Warning: HexView is currently available just in english language - but this will probably change in future...
