Making the Manual and Links Work

The manual for the Demo version of Shanghai: Second Dynasty is located on the worldwide web in order to make the Demo smaller for downloading.
If you encounter difficulty when you select the Manual - Rules option from the Help menu, or when you select any of the links in the Help menu or the Entry/Exit dialog, this information is provided to help you get it working properly.

Use the jewel icon at the right -- pull it down to scroll down the page.

Windows 95/98

1. Initiate an Internet connection as you normally do (each ISP or network setup may require you to do this differently). The manual will only open (the links will only work) if your computer is already connected to the Internet and the connection is active.

2. Try again to select Manual - Rules or other link from the Help menu in the game. Continued farther below; pull the jewel icon down for further steps.

Macintosh

Before clicking the Manual - Rules option under the Help menu, you must:

1. Have either OS 8.5 or later with the Internet Control Panel, OR have the Internet Config extension loaded (if you don't have this common extension, you can download it from http://www.quinn.echidna.id.au/Quinn/Config/ or other sources).

2. In one of the above, have a browser chosen as the preferred browser, and be connected to the internet or have the network settings set to automatically connect. Then try again to use the manual or links.

Both Windows and Mac

3. If you can't get linking to work from within the game, open your Internet browser and go to http://www.activision.com/games/shanghai/games/2nddynasty/
manual/manual.htm
. Then you can print the manual using your browser's Print function.

4. The Shanghai web page is at http://www.activision.com/games/shanghai.

5. The American Mah-Jongg Association web page is at http://www.amja.net.

6. Activision's E-store is at http://store.activision.com.

Web addresses are "case-sensitive." These addresses do not contain any upper-case letters, so make sure not to use the shift key when typing these addresses. Don't type the period that follows these addresses. Any error in typing these addresses will cause them to malfunction, so make sure you type them exactly.
If none of the links work, and you are sure you have entered the addresses properly, then the problem is your Internet connection, and you should contact your Internet Service Provider.
