Installing Playback

To install and run Playback, you must be running Windows 2000 Server, and the following components must also be installed:

For information on installing these services, see the Windows 2000 product documentation.

Installation Instructions

The Playback tool consists of two components, Recorder.dll (an ISAPI Filter) and Playback.exe, a command-line executable file. These files are installed to the user-definable installation directory during Windows 2000 Resource Kit setup. In order to start and run the tool, however, a series of post-installation steps must be followed.

To register and start the Recorder ISAPI Filter.

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Services Manager.
  2. In the left column of the IIS snap-in, right-click the computer name and select Properties.
  3. In the Master Properties drop-down box, make sure WWW Service is selected.
  4. Click Edit for the WWW Service master properties.
  5. Select the ISAPI Filters tab and click Add.
  6. Type in a filter name (for example, Recorder) and the path to the directory where the associated file is installed (usually the Resource Kit installation directory).
For Recorder, select Recorder.dll. For Playback, select Playback.exe.
  7. Click OK to close each dialog box.
  8. In the IIS snap-in, right-click the computer name, and in the menu, click Restart IIS.
  9. Click OK.

Once the Recorder ISAPI filter has been started, all traffic coming through the filter will be logged.
