IIS Migration WizardNEW

The IIS Migration Wizard migrates Web server configuration settings, Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME) type information, and content to Windows 2000 Server and Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.0 from another Web server. It also provides the option to migrate users and groups.

During a migration, the wizard performs the following basic tasks:

Each of these tasks is explained in more detail later in this topic.

The wizard overwrites any files that have duplicate names according to Windows conventions. File names are considered to be duplicate if they are differentiated only by letter cases. In addition, the wizard retains the UNIX-style names of migrated files and directories, and not all UNIX-style names are accepted by Windows. Before you migrate them, it is important to make sure that your UNIX files and directories conform to Windows conventions, as described in Migrating UNIX Files and Applications.

The Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Resource Kit Internet Information Services Resource Guide includes two chapters about Web server migration. "Managing the Migration Process" provides general information about planning and implementation.
