The Partition Number field is a cumulative listing of all volumes on the disk, including all partitions (primary and extended) as well as all logical volumes contained within any existing extended partitions. While a disk may contain no more than four partitions, there can be as many logical volumes as there are letters in the alphabet, minus the reserved drive letters A through C.
