Defptr.exe: Default Printer

Tool starts iconified in the system tray.

Using this tool, you can easily change your default printer, switching between available network or local printers.

Network printers tend to get busy at erratic intervals, which can require periodically switching the default to avoid "traffic jams." Default Printer allows you to toggle between available printers - local and network. The tool can be used for other purposes as well: for example, to switch printers while working in applications that support only the default printer.

Default Printer can be especially valuable for roaming users, allowing them to quickly select different default printers in different places for a docked notebook computer.

By default, Default Printer runs in status area mode. The icon is located in the status area, next to the clock on the right side of the Windows 2000 taskbar. To disable status area icon mode, run defptr -i.
