Cluster Verification Utility

Server-only: This tool is included in the Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit only.

This tool verifies that a two-node cluster is set up properly. The minimum requirements for a server cluster are:

• two servers connected by a network
• a method for each server to access the other's disk data, and
• special cluster software like the Cluster service, which is part of the Microsoft® Windows® 2000 operating system.

Cluster Verification Utility includes two tests: Configuration Verification and Shared SCSI Drive Diagnostic Verification.

• Configuration Verification allows you to verify that the two cluster nodes are able to communicate with each other, and that both of them are able to access the same shared SCSI drive or drives.
• Shared SCSI Drive Diagnostic Verification tests a shared SCSI Bus for functionality that is required by by the Cluster service systems.
  

   

  

  Caution

  This test will destroy data on all disks on the shared bus.

Important

This tool writes to drive A: on each node of the cluster being tested. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure that these drives contain a writable floppy disk before running the tool.

Files Required

The files for this tool are installed by the Windows 2000 Resource Kit setup program into the Resource Kit\cvu folder on your hard disk. Cluster Verification Utility must be installed separately from the Resource Kit, using its own setup program.

• Clustsim.exe û The executable file for Shared SCSI Drive Diagnostic Verification.
• Cvu.txt - The documentation file for Clustsim.
• Ntlog.dll - a DLL that works with Cluster Verification Utility.
• Setup.exe û An installation program which copies all the CVU files to a \CVU directory on the local hard drive.
• Wpcvp.cnt û The table of contents for the CVU Help file.
• Wpcvp.exe û The main CVU executable file, containing the Configuration Verification codes.
• Wpcvp.hlp û The CVU Help file.
