Hangul
- The Korean written language consists of 2 types of characters:
- Hangul 2,350 (KS C 5601-87) and 11,172 (MS C 5700)
- Hanja 4,888 (KS C 5601-87) and 7,744 (KS C 5700)
- Each Hangul character consist of two types of sub-characters (Jamo):
- consonant: 30 (Basic: 14, Compound: 16)
- vowel: 21 (Basic: 10, Compound: 11)
- One Hangul represents one phonetic syllable.
- Each consonant or vowel symbol represents a unique sound.
