Disinfecting infected files.

When a virus infects files on your system, most viruses add their code into the file without overwriting the data in it. Therefore, a disinfection is very often a safe and effective way of removing the virus with a minimal loss of data. The OnDemand Scanner supports disinfection on every known virus that can be disinfected.

In some cases disinfection may be unsuccessful. This may be of various reasons such as:

• Sharing violation. The file may be in use by Windows or some application. Therefore it cannot be touched by F-Prot AntivirusÖ. In order to disinfect such files, we recommend using F-Prot AntivirusÖ for DOS.
   
• Files inside archives cannot be disinfected unless they are first extracted and then added again to the archive.
