Can I hide the icon for the sound?

You can't hide it, but if you set it to play automatically, you can drag the icon off the slide so it doesn't show in the presentation, and it will play without your having to click it. You can set it to play automatically when you first add the sound file.

To create the automatic setting later:

  1. Click the sound file to select it, and then right-click.
  2. On the shortcut menu, click Custom Animation.
  3. In the Custom Animation task pane, in the Start box under Modify: Play, click the arrow and select With Previous.

Note   If there is a custom animation sequence or animation scheme on the slide, the With Previous command works in the context of the animations. Also, After Previous is an option for automating the sound, if it is part of an animation sequence.

I want to create a custom CD soundtrack for my slide show.

Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 doesn't support any custom CD soundtrack add-ins; however, you can insert a CD into the presentation computer and create settings for it to play during the presentation.
