The Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer is a program used to run presentations on computers that don't have Microsoft PowerPoint installed. You can add the viewer to the same disk or network location that contains a packaged presentation by using the Pack and Go Wizard. Then you can unpackage the viewer and presentation together and run the presentation on another computer. You can also create a playlist to use with the viewer so that you can run multiple presentations, one after another.
The viewer, Ppview32.exe, which can be freely distributed with no additional license, is available on the Microsoft Office Web site. You can install it directly from the Web site or link to the download page on that site from the Pack and Go Wizard.
The viewer supports all PowerPoint 97 and PowerPoint 95 features, and most PowerPoint 2000 and PowerPoint 2002 features. Examples of PowerPoint 2000 features that are not supported are picture bullets and automatic numbering. In PowerPoint 2002, some animation effects are not supported in the viewer.
You cannot open a password-protected presentation in the viewer nor can you package the viewer in the Pack and Go Wizard with a presentation that's password-protected.
You can use the viewer for files created in both PowerPoint for Windows and PowerPoint for the Macintosh.
