To create specialized styles to use in all your publications, define
a separate set of custom styles in Microsoft Publisher. These styles will be
included in all new publications.
- On the Standard toolbar, click New
.
- Define new text styles in the publication.
How?
- Select the text that contains the formatting you want to include in your style.
- On the Formatting toolbar, click the Style box
.
- Type over the existing style name to create the name for the new style.
- Press ENTER.
- In the Create Style By Example dialog box, make sure that the name and formatting are
correct.
- On the File menu, click Save As.
- In the Save in box, click your root drive. On
most computers, the root drive location is drive C.
If your operating system is
Microsoft Windows NT or Microsoft Windows 2000, navigate to Profiles\<Username>\Application Data\ Microsoft\Office.
If your operating system is Microsoft Windows 98, navigate to Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Office.
In the File name box, type Normal.pub, and
then click Save.
Notes
- The text styles in Normal.pub only affect styles in new publications.
- If you change text styles in Normal.pub, it will only affect publications created after the changes.
Apply a text style to a paragraph
- Click anywhere in the paragraph that you want to apply the text
style to.
- On the Formatting toolbar, select
a style from the Style
box
.
Note Microsoft Publisher applies the style to the paragraph, but any
formatting, such as bold or italic, that was manually added to text within the paragraph, might remain and need to be changed manually.
Create a new text style
- Select the text that contains the formatting you want to include in your style.
- On the Formatting toolbar, click the Style
box
.
- Type over the existing style name to create the name for the new style.
- Press ENTER.

sure that the name and formatting are correct.

- On the Format menu, click Style.
- In the Styles and Formatting task pane, point to the style you want to
change, and then click the down arrow.
- Click Modify.
- Make the changes you want.
Rename a text style
You can rename most styles. Some styles,
such as Normal, cannot be renamed,
in which case the Rename command will be unavailable.
- On the Format menu, click Styles and Formatting.
- In the Styles and Formatting task pane, point to the style you want to
rename, and then click the down arrow that appears next to the style name.
- Click Rename.
- In the To box, enter the new name.
- Click OK.
Delete a text style from your publication
You can delete any text style except Normal from your
publication.
- On the Format menu, click Styles and Formatting.
- In the Styles and Formatting task pane, point to the style you want to
delete, and then click the down arrow that appears next to the style name.
- Click Delete.
The style is deleted from your publication, and
Microsoft Publisher
automatically applies the Normal style to all paragraphs. However,
the text keeps any character formatting that was manually applied.
Import all text styles from another publication or program
You can import styles you've used in another publication or in a Microsoft Word
document. This helps related publications maintain a common look and feel.
- On the Format menu, click Styles and Formatting.
- In the Styles and Formatting task pane, click Import styles.
- Click the publication or document that contains the styles
you want to import.
- Click OK.
Every style is imported from the other publication or document.
Note If you imported styles from a file created with a
previous version of Microsoft Publisher, the style known as "no style" is
converted to Normal style.
