Add or remove headers or footers
By using The Header and Footer tool, you can create headers and footers with automatic
page numbers, current date and time display, and any text you want.
Add a header or footer
To an entire publication

Before you begin, select Master Page from the View menu.
- On the View menu, click Header and Footer.
A header or footer will appear on the page, along with the Header
and Footer toolbar.
- Select the options you want from the toolbar, and then type the header or
footer text you want.
- When
you are finished, click Master Page again to return to the foreground
pages of your publication.
To a single page
- Clear the check mark beside Master Page (View
menu), and then go to the page you want.
- On the View menu, click Header and Footer.
A header or footer will appear on the page, along with the Header
and Footer toolbar.
- Select the options you want from the toolbar, and then type the header or
footer text you want.
When you are finished, click Close on the Header and Footer toolbar.
Create facing headers or footers

On the View menu, click Master Page.
- On the View menu, click Header and Footer.
A header or footer will appear on the page, along with the Header and Footer
toolbar.
- Select the options you want from the toolbar, and then type the header or
footer text you want.
- On the Arrange menu, click Layout Guides.
- In the Layout Guides dialog box, select Create Two Master Pages
with Mirrored Guides, and then click OK.
- On the Header and Footer toolbar, click Close.
Hide the header or footer on the first page
You can hide a header or footer on a single page by covering it with a text
box.
- Go to the first page of the publication you want to change.
- On the Objects toolbar,click the Text Frame tool
.
- On the page, position the pointer at the corner of the header or footer,
and then drag to create a text box that covers the header or footer.
When you print the publication, both the header or footer and the text box
covering it will be hidden on the first page.
