It takes a long time to search for files
If your operating system is Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Windows 98, and Windows Millennium Edition
If your operating system is Microsoft Windows 2000
I know a file is on a drive or Web folder, but Office Search doesn't find it
The current search might specify the correct location of the file, but other criteria might exclude the file you're looking for. Try the following:
Reenter search criteria in the Search task pane.
Make sure all files are included in the search. Click Anything in the Results should be list.
Make sure subfolders are included in the search. In the Search in list, click Everywhere, or review your folder selections.
Make sure the file type you are looking for isn't hidden. To learn how to display all files, including those with extensions such as .dll and .sys, see Windows Help.
The wrong files appear after I do a search
The index might be out of date on the computer you are searching.
If your operating system is Windows 98 or Windows Millennium Edition
In the Basic Search task pane, click Search options.
In the Index Server Settings dialog box, click Advanced.
Click Update Now.
If your operating system is Windows 2000
To get help updating the index in Windows 2000, click Indexing Service (Windows Search task pane), and then click Help.
I can't search my mailbox
You might have a previous version of Microsoft Outlook.
I can't search for a specific file type
If you are searching for a Microsoft Office file, such as a Microsoft Word or Excel file, make sure that the Office file type you want is checked in the Results should be field of the Search task pane. To search for a file type not listed, click Anything.
