Troubleshoot clips

I don't see the pictures I added to Microsoft Clip Organizer.

Clip Organizer says it can't find a clip.

When Clip Organizer cannot locate a file you have requested, it usually means that the location of the file has changed. You may have moved or removed the file, or changed your hardware configuration (for example, you might have added a new disk drive, changing the drive volume to a different letter designation).

I can't see animations in the Insert Clip Art task pane.

The thumbnail in the results pane shows only the first frame of the animation. To view the entire animation, open the clip in the Preview window.

How?

  1. Find the media clip you want to preview.

    How?

    1. On the Insert menu, point to Picture, and then click Clip Art.
    2. In the Insert Clip Art task pane, in the Search text box, type a word or phrase that describes the clip you want or type in all or some of the file name of the clip.
    3. To narrow your search, do one or both of the following:
      • To limit search results to a specific collection of clips, in the Search in box, click the arrow and select the collections you want to search.
      • To limit search results to a specific type of media file, in the Results should be box, click the arrow and select the check box next to the types of clips you want to find.
    4. Click Search.
Note   To clear the search criteria fields and begin a new search, below the Results box, click Modify.

    Tip

If you don't know the exact file name, you can substitute wildcard characters for one or more real characters. Use the asterisk (*) as a substitute for zero or more characters in a file name. Use the question mark (?) as a substitute for a single character in a file name.

  2. In the Results box, move your mouse pointer over the clip's thumbnail, and then click the arrow that appears.
  3. Click Preview/Properties.

Where's the link to the Clip Gallery Live Web site?

When you enter a search keyword in the Insert Clip Art task pane, and you have an Internet connection, Clip Organizer automatically searches for matching clips on our Web site. If it finds clips there, you'll see the following icon in the corner of the thumbnail:

If you want to use this clip, just click the thumbnail; as long as you're connected to the Internet, Clip Organizer will automatically download the clip from the Web and insert it into your document.

If you want to go to the site yourself, click Clips Online at the bottom of the Insert Clip Art task pane.

I see a red X icon instead of a clip.

When you insert or drag a picture or motion clip into your document, and you do not have a graphics filter installed for that clip, you may get an image of a checkered flag instead.

Please make note of the information in the accompanying dialog box, which will explain why your request was not processed and point you towards solving the problem.

I can't select all the pieces in my clip.

Many of the draw-type clips you see in the Microsoft Clip Organizer are metafiles (.wmf files). If you converted the clip to a drawing object and then ungrouped it, you may be left with many little pieces that can be difficult to manage.

To select all the pieces of the ungrouped clip, on the Drawing toolbar in your Microsoft Office program, click Select Objects . Hold down the mouse button and draw a selection rectangle around the entire clip. On the Drawing toolbar, click the Draw menu, and then click Group. This will not undo any changes you have made to the pieces of the clip.
