Change a picture on a button

Do one of the following:

Select an existing image for a toolbar button or menu command

  1. If the button or menu command you want to change is on a toolbar, make sure the toolbar is visible.

    How?

    1. On the View menu, point to Toolbars.
    2. Do one of the following:
      • Click the toolbar you want to display.
      • To view more toolbars, click Customize. In the Customize dialog box, click the Toolbars tab, and then select the check box for the toolbar you want to display. Click Close.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Customize.
  3. With the Customize dialog box open, do one of the following:

    Change a toolbar button image

Change a menu command image

  1. Click the menu name on the menu bar or toolbar, or click the shortcut menu that contains the command with the image you want to change.
  2. Click the menu command.
  3. In the Customize dialog box, click Modify Selection, point to Change Button Image on the shortcut menu, and then click an image.

Note   If you change the image for a command on a built-in menu (for example, the Edit menu), that image appears in all views that show that particular menu with that particular command.

Copy an image from a graphics program to a toolbar button or menu command

For a clear image, copy a graphic that is the same size as a built-in button image or a menu command image. The default built-in button image is 16 x 16 pixels. A larger image might be distorted because it will be scaled to fit the size of the button.

  1. Copy to the Office Clipboard the image that you want to appear on the toolbar button or menu command.
  2. If you can select the format for the copied graphic, select a bitmap or picture format.
  3. Switch to the Microsoft Office program you want to paste the image to.
  4. Make sure the toolbar you want to change is visible.

    How?

    1. On the View menu, point to Toolbars.
    2. Do one of the following:
      • Click the toolbar you want to display.
      • To view more toolbars, click Customize. In the Customize dialog box, click the Toolbars tab, and then select the check box for the toolbar you want to display. Click Close.
  5. On the Tools menu, click Customize.
  6. Do one of the following:

Copy an image from one toolbar button or menu command to another

  1. Make sure the toolbar you want to change is visible.

    How?

    1. On the View menu, point to Toolbars.
    2. Do one of the following:
      • Click the toolbar you want to display.
      • To view more toolbars, click Customize. In the Customize dialog box, click the Toolbars tab, and then select the check box for the toolbar you want to display. Click Close.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Customize.
  3. To copy an image, do one of the following:

    Copy a button image

    1. Click the toolbar button that contains the image.
    2. In the Customize dialog box, click Modify Selection.
    3. Click Copy Button Image on the shortcut menu.

    Copy a command image

    1. Click the menu that contains the image, and then click the command.
    2. In the Customize dialog box, click Modify Selection.
    3. Click Copy Button Image on the shortcut menu.
  4. To paste an image, do one of the following:

    Paste the copied image to a toolbar button

    1. Click the button you want to change.
    2. In the Customize dialog box, click Modify Selection.
    3. Click Paste Button Image on the shortcut menu.

    Paste the copied image to a command

    1. Click the menu that contains the command you want to change, and then click the command.
    2. In the Customize dialog box, click Modify Selection.
    3. Click Paste Button Image on the shortcut menu.

Edit a toolbar button image or a menu command image

  1. Make sure the toolbar you want to change is visible.

    How?

    1. On the View menu, point to Toolbars.
    2. Do one of the following:
      • Click the toolbar you want to display.
      • To view more toolbars, click Customize. In the Customize dialog box, click the Toolbars tab, and then select the check box for the toolbar you want to display. Click Close.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Customize.
