Troubleshoot tables

I set my table border to zero but it still shows up in Netscape Navigator.

You probably need to set the compatibility so that your border properties work in both Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator browsers. Do the following:

  1. In Page view, on the Tools menu, click Page Options.
  2. Click the Compatibility tab.
  3. Under Browsers, select Both Internet Explorer and Navigator.
  4. Under Browser versions, select 4.0 browsers and later.
  5. Under Servers, select Custom (unless you know your server). If you know that your server has Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions, select the box that indicates that.
  6. Click OK.

My tables are different sizes in different browsers.

Note This will significantly change the layout of your table, as it will resize itself to each browser window.

Why won't my double borders show up in Netscape Navigator?

Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator display tables differently. With colored borders, only a single color will render in Netscape, not the three-dimensional looking double border.

If you want to use a single border color to appear in both browsers, do the following:

  1. In Page view, right-click the table, and then click Table Properties on the shortcut menu.
  2. Under Borders, select a color from the Color list.

The Use background picture option in Table Properties is unavailable.

Your compatibility options probably include Netscape, which does not support background pictures in tables.

To change your compatibility settings:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Page Options.
  2. On the Compatibility tab, make sure that the Browsers selection is set to either Custom or Microsoft Internet Explorer Only.
