Manage the text index
If your web site is located on a Web server running the Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions, Microsoft FrontPage creates a text index of the words in your web pages. If pages are deleted from your site, the index must be recalculated to reflect the changes.
Display a warning when the index is out of date
You can set FrontPage to display a warning if your web site's text index is out of date and needs to be recalculated.
- On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the General tab.
- Select the Warn when text index is out of date check box.
Create a new text index and purge outdated words
-
To create a new text index and purge outdated words, click Recalculate Hyperlinks on the Tools menu. Note that this procedure may take several minutes if you have many external hyperlinks, since FrontPage must connect to and verify each one.
- The search form will not locate approximately 300 of the most common English words, such as "a" and "the."
- If your web site is located on a Web server running Internet Information Services (IIS), the search form will use Indexing Service to perform the search for new indexing information. Indexing Service has more extensive support for searching non-English systems and Microsoft Office documents. This process may take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours or more. If your web site is not located on a Web server running IIS, the search form uses the Wide Area Information Server (WAIS).
