Set or modify default values for database search fields

  1. Right-click the Database Results region, and then click Database Results Properties. The Database Results Wizard starts. Click Next to get to Step 3.
  2. In Step 3 of the wizard, click More Options, click Critera, and then enter criteria.

    How?

    1. In Step 3 of the wizard, click More Options, click Criteria, and then click Add.
    2. In the Field name box, select the field that contains the values you want to look for. 
    3. In the Comparison box, select the type of comparison you want to perform. 
    4. In the Value area, set the options based on what you want to do:

      Create a search form to let site visitors look up specific records

      • Verify that the Use this search form field check box is selected.
      • Verify that the value displayed in the Value box is the same as the value displayed in the Field name box.
      • Make sure you select the Add search form check box in Step 5 of the wizard.

      Filter the database results to display only records matching a specific value

      • Clear the Use this search form field check box, and then type the value in the box below. 

        Note   If you are using a custom query and want to substitute the value from a parameter in that query, select the Use this search form field check box, and then, in the Value box, type the name of the parameter.

    5. To specify additional criteria or to add another field to the search form, select the operator in the And/Or box to use when combined with additional criteria. 
    6. To specify additional criteria or to add another field, click Add, and repeat steps 2 through 5 of this procecure.
    7. When you are satisfied with the criteria listed in the Criteria dialog box, click OK to close it.

  4. In the Input parameters list, select the parameter to use to specify or modify a default value, and then click Edit.
  5. In the Value box, type the default value for that parameter, and then click OK.

    An example of a default value would be to specify "Seattle" as the value for the City field. The default record would display information related to Seattle, but the user could enter a different city to search on.
