Create a hyperlink to show a page in another frame

When you click a hyperlink on a page shown in one frame on a frames page, the page that the hyperlink points to usually opens in another frame, which is the target frame.

On frames pages that you create with frames page templates in Microsoft FrontPage, the target frames are already set up for you. You can override a target frame and choose a different frame where you want your hyperlink shown.

In Page view, do one or both of the following:

Create a hyperlink to show a page in a target frame

  1. Open the frames page you want to modify, click the Normal button  , and then click the page where you want to create the hyperlink.
  2. Type or select the text or picture you want to use as a hyperlink, and then click Insert Hyperlink Insert Hyperlink button.

    If you do not select text or a picture, the destination URL is displayed as the hyperlink text.

  3. In the Insert Hyperlink dialog box, there are several ways you can select the page you want to show. Do one of the following:

    Create a hyperlink to a page or file

    1. Under Link to, click Existing File or Web Page.
    2. Select the page from among the list of pages you have already created in the current working folder.

    Create a hyperlink to a page or file on the World Wide Web

    1. Under Link to, make sure that Existing File or Web Page is selected.
    2. Click World Wide Web World Wide Web button.
    3. In your Web browser, browse to the page that you want to link to, and then press ALT+TAB to switch back to Microsoft FrontPage. The location of the page you visited is displayed in the Address box.

    Create a hyperlink to an e-mail address

    1. Under Link to, click E-mail Address.
    2. Either type the e-mail address you want in the E-mail address box, or select an e-mail address in the Recently used e-mail addresses box
    3. In the Subject box, type the subject of the e-mail message.

      Note   Some Web browsers and e-mail programs may not recognize the subject line.

    Create a hyperlink to a bookmark

    1. Select the page that contains the bookmark, and then click Bookmark.
    2. In the Select Place in Document box, click the bookmark you want to use as the destination, and then click OK.

    Create a hyperlink to a new page  

    1. Under Link to, click Create New Document.
    2. Type the name of the new document. If you want to change the path of the new document, click Change.
    3. Under When to edit, specify whether you want to edit the new document now or later.

Change the default target frame

  1. Type or select the text or picture you are using as a hyperlink, and then click Insert Hyperlink Insert Hyperlink button.
  2. To change the target frame from the default frame, click Target Frame in the Insert Hyperlink dialog box. Then do one of the following:

    Choose a target frame within your frames page

    Choose a target frame either within your frames page or outside of it

Tip

To designate the target frame you selected as the default target frame for all the hyperlinks on the page, select the Set as page default check box.
