Create a cascading style sheet

Some of the content in this topic may not be applicable to some languages.

You can use Microsoft FrontPage to create both external and embedded cascading style sheets (CSS).

Create an external CSS

  1. On the File menu, point to New, and then click Page or Web.
  2. On the New Page or Web task pane, under New from template, click Page Templates.
  3. Click the Style Sheets tab, click the type of CSS you want to create, and then click OK.

FrontPage creates a new page with a .css file name extension and opens it for editing in Page view. You must save this page to be able to apply it later on.

Note   The Style toolbar appears when you create a CSS. You can click on the toolbar to activate the Style dialog box.

Create an embedded CSS

In Page view, do the following:

  1. From the Normal pane, click the Format menu, and then click Style.

  2. Click New, and then in the Name (selector) box, type the name of the new style.
  3. Under Style Type, choose whether the style will be a Paragraph or Character style.
  4. Click Format, and then specify the formatting characteristics for the new style:
  5. Close all dialog boxes to return to the page.

Note   When you apply a style directly to an item using the Style button on its Properties dialog box, the style is applied directly to the element, creating what is called an inline cascading style sheet (CSS).
