Add a caption to a table

You can add a caption —  a title —  to a table to label it or summarize its content for a site visitor. A table caption can be displayed above or below the table. You can also align the caption and format it like you would any other text.

In Page view, do one or more of the following:

Insert a caption at the top of the table

  1. Position the insertion point anywhere in the table.
  2. On the Table menu, point to Insert, and then click Caption.
  3. Type the text for your caption.

Note  By default the caption appears at the top of the table.

Position the caption below the table

  1. Create the caption at the top of the table.
  2. Right-click on the caption, and then click Caption Properties on the shortcut menu.
  3. Click Bottom of table, and then click OK.

Change the alignment of the caption

  1. Select the caption you have created.
  2. Click one of the following on the Formatting toolbar:
