Virus |
This page controls the virus scanning options of FTGate. FTGate is able to integrate with several virus scanning packages. This is done through an interface module that passes scan requests to the scanner and return the results to FTGate.
There are three options available to control the scanning.

Description |
Disable Virus Scanning |
Selecting this option prevents FTGate from using any external scanner. Email will not be scanned for viruses. |
Scan files and Quarantine infected files |
Selecting this option will cause any available supported scanner to be used and when a virus is found the message shall be quarantined in the Inbox/quarantine folder (see Spooling). A notification message will be sent to the sender, the recipient and the system administrator. |
Scan files and Delete infected files |
Selecting this option will cause any available supported scanner to be used and when a virus is found the message shall be deleted and the sender of the message notified. |

Description |
FTGate scans all attachments with the extension listed here. |
This contains a list of attachment types that will be scanned for viruses. Clicking the 'Add default extensions' button will populate the table with a suitable set of extensions.
Note: The '*' character is a wildcard, this will force ALL attachments passing through FTGate to be scanned. On busy systems this may cause a noticeable slowdown in performance.
This can also be used with another character, e.g. 'a*' to scan all attachments whose extension begins with the letter 'a'. |
FTGate requires a separate
scanner in order to scan files. It does not come with a virus scanner,
only an interface. For an up to date list of supported scanners please
see our web site.
When using the generic file scanning interface
( the default if no specific scanner support is found) FTGate will report
that it is scanning for viruses EVEN
IF NO SCANNER IS INSTALLED ON THE MACHINE.
When using the generic scanner zip files will not be scanned. This is due to file locking scanners not blocking access to zip files.
