This page provides security options, which allows the password to be defined or changed. The option to use Windows NT/2000 password can also be enabled here for this mailbox. Windows NT Password option uses the same logon password for mail as logging on to the NT network, this saves time and increases security.
Property |
Description |
Only allow send to local domain |
Makes this mailbox a "Local only" mailbox, i.e. the user can only send to other users in the same domain.
Messages to external addresses result in the "Relaying denied" error. |
Roaming User |
Checking this box designates the mailbox as a Roaming mailbox. This feature enables tighter security for users connecting to their mailboxes when offsite.
When offsite ('roaming') they probably connect to the POP3 server via an ISP. This requires that the ISP's IP address range must be in the Local Addresses list of the POP3 server. This opens up the server to anyone using each ISP in the list.
So, to prevent easy access to all mailboxes you need to create a second POP3 server that only accepts roaming users. Each ISP's IP address range can be added into this Roaming POP3 server, which has restricted mailbox access. In the LAN POP3 server just put the LAN address range in the Local Addresses list. |
Use local password control |
FTGate uses the local password for the user to enable connection to the mailbox. |
Password |
Define the local password for this mailbox that the user will enter to connect to the mailbox and retrieve their mail. |
Repeat |
Repeat the password to confirm it was entered correctly the first time. |
Use NT password control |
Only available on a Windows NT/2000 machine. FTGate uses the NT SAM database for password authentication. |
ID |
This is the Windows NT/2000 user name as defined for the user, i.e. the logon name, for NT password control. |
