Connecting Outlook Express 5 to FTGate

To begin - open Outlook Express, click on Tools | Accounts and click on the 'Mail' tab to show the screen below.

Then click on the 'Add' button. You will then see a list of options to the right of the 'Add' button (this may be in a different place if there is limited space due to screen size).

Select 'Mail'. This will start the set-up wizard. Enter your name in the 'Display name' field and then Click 'Next' to continue.

On the next screen enter your full email address in the following format user@domainname.com where user is the mailbox name within FTGate for the user you are setting up and domainname.com is your correct, registered domain name.

The option 'I already have an email address that I'd like to use' should be selected as below.   Click 'Next' to continue.

On the next screen enter the machine name of the FTGate server, or the IP address of that machine. Click 'Next' to continue.

Next, enter the user's mailbox name and password. This is the name of the mailbox within FTGate for the user and the password defined for that mailbox. Click 'Next' to continue.

If you experience any difficulty connecting to the mailbox, use the full email address, e.g. user@domainname.com where user is the mailbox name within FTGate for the user you are setting up and domainname.com is your correct, registered domain name.

If you are using the authentication options within FTGate you can check the 'Allow authentication' box on this page. This will force Outlook Express to authenticate the connection each time it is made. This is not usually required on a LAN (local area network).

Click 'Next' to continue.

Congratulations, You have set-up the account for this user. Click Finish to close this dialogue window.

It should now be possible to check for new mail on the FTGate server. Press F5 on the keyboard or Click the 'Send and Receive' button on the Outlook Express 5 Menu bar.
