Connecting Outlook 2000 to FTGate

To begin - start Outlook 2000. Then on the menu bar of Outlook 2000, click on Tools | Accounts - you will see the screen below.

Click 'Add' and select 'Mail'. You will see the screen below:

Enter your display name, usually your name or your company name. Click 'Next' to continue.

You will see this screen:

Select 'I already have an e-mail address that I'd like to use'.

Then enter your full Internet email address in the following format, user@domainname.com where user is the mailbox name within FTGate for the user you are setting up and domainname.com is your correct, registered domain name. Click 'Next' to continue.

Leave the 'My incoming mail server is a 'POP3' server set to default (change to this if necessary).

Incoming mail - This is the name of the FTGate mail server machine or IP address.

Outgoing mail - This is usually the same as the incoming mail. Click 'Next' to continue.

Account name - This is the mailbox name for this user within FTGate. Note: If you have not bound the pop server to the domain within FTGate you will need to use the full email address as the logon name.

If you experience any difficulty connecting to the mailbox, use the full email address, e.g. user@domainname.com where 'user' is the mailbox name within FTGate for the user you are setting up and domainname.com is your correct, registered domain name.

Password - This is the password defined for the mailbox entered above. Click 'Next' to continue.

If you are using the Authentication options within FTGate you can check the 'Allow authentication' box on this page. This will force Outlook 2000 to authenticate the connection each time it is made. This is not usually required on a LAN (local area network).

Select the 'Connect using the network' option. Click 'Next' to continue.

Click 'Finish' to close this screen. You will be prompted to close and restart Outlook 2000 so the changes can take effect.

It should now be possible to check for new mail on the FTGate server. Press F5 on the keyboard or Click the 'Send and receive' button on the Outlook 2000 Tool bar.
